1916: Pussy perfect

Generally agreed to be a pretty good run by all who completed it despite the meaningless loop towards the end which two recces had failed to conquer, but which Egghead, desperately searching for his lost Gik, managed to short cut, getting iced later for his troubles. Gik meanwhile was off consorting with Only a Yolk's not short-cutting group who managed to completely avoid most of the paper. The short run meanwhile got split up with All Black being first home and the rest following on after the return of all the long runners bar Sex Sprinter who took a short cut too far and was almost last home. Actually last in were Chao Ngor and Kanya plus baby who had decided to head up to the top of the hill rather than face all that flat stuff. For those who didn't head up the hill (184m) the high spot (109m) was just after 360 6 with the total ascent being about 150m. All Black measured the short run at 4.4m and Mrs. Garmin thought the long run was about 7k without the checks. Buck returned and will set next week's run with Wi Wi, and Smeghead is rumored to be joining us. Sex Sprinter will set the last run of the month with a camp-out to follow so the hareline looks ok for the time being. But we have a blank sheet staring at us for April and volunteers should contact Yardstick who is threatening to nominate hares if we don't get any!

Pink is for pussies

It's a pussy run on Saturday, in celebration of Superpig's birthday and since our GM has requested that we should be themed this week, let's all try to wear something pink as a sign of our solidarity with our ladies who will be doing battle with the elements on Saturday morning to bring you a run to remember.
Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1916, Saturday March 17, 2017, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Super Pig, Only a Yolk, Squealer
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng intersection take the old Yala road for 11.8k and turn right (about 1k past the Ang Thong intersection) on the road heading for Wat Kao Lam. Follow the road for 4k across two crossroads and on through the village then turn right on the road leading towards Kao Long for 1k to the runsite on the right at 7.050195° N 100.613577° E. From Hatyai, get to Tha Kham and head East toward Ban Sai Kao for about 5k, then turn left into the Kao Long turning and follow the road for about 600m, Bear left at the Y intersection for 1k to the run site on the right.
Details of HH3's run on Sunday are currently unknown but will no doubt appear within half an hour of this post so will be added later.
Post script.
It did! Map below.
As used not so long ago by Gan Yao! From the Tha Kham crossroads go south for 2k to Wat Keow Kloy then go about 100m and turn left at the hash sign then follow the road and track for about 1k to the run site on the right at the T junction

Second best

Run 1915 teetered on the brink of being our biggest turn-out of the year, but then at the last minute fell away and we still await the breaking of the 30-barrier. But with a couple of new runners and a healthy short run pack it felt crowded even if the long run was a bit sparse. The run  however, was not difficult and the whole hill section was bereft of 360s, with the result that by the final check, all 5 hounds were together and the sweeping hare was able to short cut to the beer stop with a clear conscience. There, the beer truck guardians' run awaited them with 4 people having opted to join 2 of the hares on the ride out with several then setting out to finish the run on foot with the long run pack.

For the record the long run was 6.7k stretching to 8.4k with all the checks. The maximum height reached by whoever found the 6th F was 198m and the total ascent was about 260m. The short run in contrast was flat, flat, flat never getting above 70m, and discounting the only F on the run was about 3.7k. Back at the run site there was pumpkin soup and chocolate cake to sustain the runners - just right for those cold winter evenings, and the beer truck was ritually emptied with the last 5 cans being added to the surfeit which will have to be drunk at today's HH3 run. People began to drift away before the circle could be called, partly because of a clash with some minor football match in the UK - we really are going to have to protest to the Premier League about their scheduling of games in our drinking time! Eightball was among the early departees, much to the chagrin of Buddy who resolutely refused to get into the car and had to be chained and dragged protesting into the back seat.

It's a family affair!

This week's SH3 run is a family affair with Egghead and Only a Yolk making a rare  joint appearance as hares. Other members of the Egg family may join the team if they can be persuaded to come down from the trees in time.

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1915, Saturday March 10, 2018, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Egghead and Only a Yolk
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng intersection take the old Yala road for 16k and turn right at Wat Khun Thong for 3.5k then turn left just after the big tree. After 150m go straight ahead (i.e. don't follow the road round to the right towards the village) for another 700m to the run site on the grass football pitch at  7.033055°N 100.624710°E. Park considerately just in case there is a match planned!
From Hatyai, get to the Tha Kham intersection and head East for about 6.5 k then turn right just before the big tree etc.

Sunday's HH3 run is another from Budokan's auxiliary residence in Poonakan Soi 10 (6.998133°N 100.515269°E). and is being advertised as being a special run. From Songkhla get to Wat Keow Kloy and turn right down Poonakan for about 8k and turn left at the Hash sign. From Hatyai, the turning is 3k up from the junction with Kanchnavanit Rd. and the turning is on the right. Map below which includes visual clues as to the identity of the hares!

RIP Fufu

We lost Fufu yesterday, at the hash as she probably would have wanted it. (Don't all hashers?) She was a little dog but apparently someone forgot to tell her. And probably the best pound-for-pound runner Songkhla and Hatyai Hashes ever had. On-on Fufu!

Rebirth & Rehash of the Full Moon Run

In trying to limit the overuse of future run locations and in keeping with the new green culture, the hares decided to reduce, reuse & recycle the 1914 runsite, for use of the FMH3 full moon run. This may have been a mistake on the hares part as more time was spent picking up, relaying and generally redistributing shreddy & squares, then it almost certainly would have been to set a new run in a completely different area. However to the relief of the hares, nobody appeared to have been misled onto old trails and both runs were more or less run as designed.
The attached map shows the long run for the Full Moon in magenta, with the short run cutout shown in yellow. This was also the short run on the Saturday, with reconstituted false trails & checks. The long run for the Saturday SH3 run is shown in green with the additional checks & false trails.
The short run on both days was around 4.0kms with an elevation change of about 100m. The long run for the Full Moon was 6.9km in length and 183m in elevation change, while the SH3 long run was 10.7kms in length, including false trails & checkbacks, with a total ascent of 269m.

HH3 tomorrow: the map

Give or take a preposition or two and the odd article and dispensing with any pedantic considerations about where head nouns are positioned in relation to their qualifiers or indeed where turnings are positioned in relation to traffic lights,  here is the low down on tomorrow's HH3 run site for the visually creative.

Friday, March 2, 2018

HFMH3 was well and truly resuscitated last night with a turn out in the low thirties and a great run set by Inchdick and Sex Teacher which pretty much everybody did either in its short or long form.
This month is another blue moon month so let's do it all again on the 29th and more to the point let's do it all again on Saturday, when the same hares and run site will be gracing SH3's run, details of which below:

Songkhla Hash House Harriers, run #1914, Saturday March 3, 2018; 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Yardstick and All Black
Misdirections: From Songkhla, take the Old Hatyai Road for 4.7km past the Ko Yor intersection, turn left and go 10.6km (i.e. 2.8km past Wat Khao Kloi and about 350m before Wat Noen Phichit). Turn left at the hash sign and staying right go 2.4km to the end of the bitumen, then turn right for 200m along the dirt road to the runsite
at 6.998842° N 100.604472° E or thereabouts. From Hatyai, get to Tha Kham and go south for 4.8km then turn left at the hash sign etc.

Sunday's HH3 run is being set by Sex Printer from the big sala behind the CP factory. From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 6.6k and do a U turn. Come back 100m and turn left for 1k (7.086453° N 100.545255° E). From Hatyai the turning is about 3.7k past the Nam Noi traffic lights.

Monday, February 26, 2018

Yes, after an absence of 6 months, the Hatyai Full Moon Hash is back in action and will be the only place in town (well, strictly, out of town) where you can buy a beer on Thursday as the powers that be have invoked a nationwide ban on alcohol  just to encourage everybody to come along!

Details are:
Hatyai Full Moon Hash House Harriers, run #140, Thursday March 1, 2018; 7:00 p.m.
Hares: Inchdick and Sex Teacher
Misdirections: From Songkhla, take the Old Hatyai Road for 4.7km past the Ko Yor intersection, turn left and go 10.6km (i.e. 2.8km past Wat Khao Kloi and about 350m before Wat Noen Phichit). Turn left at the hash sign and staying right go 2.4km to the end of the bitumen, then turn right for 200m along the dirt road to the runsite. From Hatyai, get to Tha Kham and go south for 4.8km then turn left at the hash sign etc.
Normal stuff applies: Bring a hand/headlight if you intend to run and some food if you think you'll be hungry afterwards. Beer will be available via a baroque system of exchange known as cash at an exchange rate of 1 can/bottle for 40 Baht or multiples thereof. But please do come along and support/enjoy Full Moon Hash which is now in it's glorious 14th year.

Details of Saturday's SH3 run will follow on Friday morning but will look remarkably similar to those above, i.e. the same hares and the same runsite. The run should feature added Beaver and quite possibly the return of Curry in A Hurry as well, so some rare hashing treats in store before we are all brought crashing back to earth at the CP factory with HH3 next Sunday!

Sweeping changes at SH3 as Beavershot tops the poll

It was out with the old, in with the new at yesterday's SH3 AGM as Beavershot came out top in a closely fought race for the coveted position of Hash Nerd. Meanwhile GM, All Black narrowly retained her position but On Sec Throbbin' Hood was unceremoniously dumped in favour of former Beer Butch's Bitch's Ass, Little Tool, who later would not comment on suggestions that this was the first step in a bid for GM next year.
In other moves, R2D2, despite not being at the vote was appointed as Beer Butch with Yardstick confirmed as Hare Raiser and Sex Sprinter as Cultural Adviser, whatever that is. Only a Yolk was the surprise choice for Hash Haberdasher (she looked surprised anyway as she has repeatedly insisted that she has no wish to do the job) and Egghead retained his role as financial supremo. So there was no role for a relieved Stick Insect and the canine lobby was yet again unsuccessful in its attempt to gain a seat at the top table. Harram was later seen to be sulking in the back of the Egg-truck with Ma Mick whose only comment was "Aaarruuugh!"

With the official business out of the way, run 1913 began a little before the advertised time of 4:30 leaving late arrivals Conebrain and Gan Yao to desperately pursue the sizable pack as 27 of the 29 runners set out on some kind of run. Of those, 22 made the beer stop half way round the long run, just over half of whom then finished it, the remaining 10 including the 3 hares following the short run home. The long run with all the F's and the checkback was 6.9k with a total ascent of 175m and the highest point on both runs was at the beer stop which was at about 100m.

But the good news was that in addition to the two returning runners, there were six new runners and the beer truck was well and truly drunk (as were some of the later departees!) So an optimistic start to the second year of All Black's glorious reign and if we can build on this and stagger over the 30 mark, who knows, we might just make 2000 yet!

Democracy delayed

By popular demand, tomorrow's run will now start at 4:30 p.m., which means that we don't need to start the election until 4:15 p.m. and at 4:00 you can be indulging in a friendly debate with whoever else you can find at the run site about the burning issue of the day (who's buying the first round of beers?)

On the stump

It's that time of year again when we elect a whole new committee and pledge our allegiance, or not as the case may be, to the GM for another year. Following last nights highly successful caucus at Oscars Bar at which a third table was only narrowly avoided by Conebrain agreeing to sit on the floor, there are dramatic developments afoot,  news of which will be revealed whenever I can fight my way through the fog that descended right about when we started talking about SH3.

The election will however take place tomorrow at about 4:00 p.m. right before the run which should therefore start at about 4:05 p.m.
Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers run #1913, Saturday, February 24, 4:00 p.m. or shortly thereafter.
Hares: Egghead and Harram
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng intersection take the old Yala road for 11.8k and turn right (about 1k past the Ang Thong intersection) on the road heading for Wat Kao Lam. Follow the road across two crossroads for about 3.2k to the run site by the lake on the left at N7 03.032 E100 37.321. From Hatyai get to Tha Kham and head East toward Ban Sai Kao for about 5k, then turn left into the Kao Long turning and follow the road for about 600m, Bear right (away from Kao Long) through the village and follow the road for a further 900m to the run site on the right.

HH3's run on Sunday is from somewhere close to Tungnai School just off Poonakan Rd. From Wat Keow Kloy go down Poonakan for about 6k and then turn right at the hash sign and follow the road round past the school to the runsite on the left. Map below.

Flat choice!

A creditable turnout yesterday in the absence of some but not all of the Thai persuasion, and bolstered by the return of Totally Inadequate and his son, Mot, who probably wasn't even walking the last time his dad ran with us! The hare took the one-run option to avoid having to go out and lay a short run (actually he forgot to bring the paper, so opted to sweep instead!) but in the event, all but one of the short runners made it round the whole run, which All Black measured at 5.1k, well before dusk. The exception was Only a Yolk, who based on local knowledge, walked up the road from the first 360, only to get led astray by the only X at the 4th 360, from which she rejoined the run via crawling under some barbed wire and discovering the remains of a  recently deceased leopard cat in the process. Meanwhile, Eightball and Totally Inadequate managed to finally annoy the tethered bull out on the rice paddies, enraged by the long runners, into freeing itself from its moorings, from where it made a vain attempt to skewer Chao Ngor who was unphazed by the experience and later went on to put her life at risk for a second time by climbing the tree at the run site bearing some inedible fruit which no doubt possessed important medicinal properties.

HH3 today? The best that can be said is: Dam! Pru Toh! Which probably means that going to the Nam Noi traffic lights and turning left (from Songkhla - right from Hatyai) then looking for a sign on the right after about 1.5k will probably get you in the right direction. The hare is Robocop so a map would probably not help!

Gong Xi Fat Choice!

Our vernacular contingent are likely to be coming over all Chinese this weekend so there is some doubt about how many will be in a fit condition to run, and certainly on Saturday there are a number of significant absences to be expected. So all the more reason for those who do not claim some dim and distant connection to the middle kingdom to come to SH3 on Saturday and make the hare's efforts worthwhile-ish.

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1912, Saturday February 17th 2018, 4:00 p.m.
Hare: Egghead
Misdirections: From the shattered remains of the Ko Yo intersection take the new Yala road for 5.3k and turn right into the road immediately before Coffee Chill to the run site at the T-junction about 100m down the hill past Coffee Chill at 7.092361°N 100.597899°E. From Hatyai, It is best not to come anywhere near the Ko Yo intersection but to turn right at the Kuan Hin traffic lights and go 4k then go straight ahead (i.e. left, as the road bends right). Go 1k then follow the hard top road left at the 4-way intersection for 500m and at the junction with the NYR, turn left for 1.6k and turn left immediately past Coffee Chill. If your hash name is Eightball and you are coming from the other side of the Ko Yo intersection - good luck! But we do hope you can make it.

Sunday's HH3 details are awaited which is shorthand for Robocop having to set another run at short notice as Sex Printer is apparently among those with unsuspected Chinese ancestry, so is likely to be unavailable! Details will be posted later in all the usual places.

The hare announces...

Songkhla Hash House Harriers. Saturday 10th February 2018. Time: 16:00.
Run #: 1911
Hare: Gan Yao

Gan Yao's Amazing Scenic Extravaganza

From the Ko Yoh Intersection: Take the old Hat Yai road for 4.7KM and
turn left. Go 7.8 KM and just after the Wat Khao Kloi (50 MT after) take  the turn on the left. Drive through the village (there are lots of kids, please drive carefully)  and after 200 MT bear left over the small bridge. Follow the track and at the T junction turn right to runsite alongside the track.

Sunday's HH3 run is from the football field behind Ban Sai Kao  (7.033055°N 100.624710°E) and the hare is Kai Jeow. From Songkhla take the OYR for 16k to Wat Khun Thong and turn right then go 3.5k and turn left just after the big tree. Follow the road straight ahead for 800m to the run site. From Hatyai get to Tha Kham and head east for about 6.5k to the big tree and turn right etc.

Sticky Stuff

So the Sticky one is setting a run this week, and it's from the same run site near the water tower at Napong that he used the last time round but he promises that the wall of death won't be featured this week! Misdirections are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run# 1910, Saturday February 2, 2018, 4:00 p.m.
Hare: Stick Insect
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4k and turn left at the Kuan Hin traffic lights then go about 6.5k and turn left for 500m to the run site just beyond the water tower at 7.070652°N 100.611909°E. From Songkhla town  you can avoid the Ko Yo intersection by taking the old Yala road for 11k from the Kao Seng intersection and turning right by the beer shop (about 1k past the Angthong intersection) then go 2k, passing Wat Kao Lam in the process, then at the crossroads go right for about 2k and the turning to the run site will be on your right. From Hatyai, take the old road to Kuan Hin then turn right at the traffic lights for 6.5k, etc.

Sunday's HH3 run should  be from Super Pig's auxiliary residence near the former abattoir in Soi 10 at the PSU end of Poonakan (6.998133°N 100.515269°E) this week as long as the grass gets cut in time and no one else succumbs to the grim reaper!

Saturday, January 27, 2018

Movin' on up!

Sunday's HH3 runsite (repeat Sunday's HH3 runsite, NOT today's SH3 runsite) has moved up Poonakan by 5k or so to the football field at Tungnai as with the death during the week of Hennessy, No one has had time to mow the grass at Soi 10 which is apparently head-high!

Today's SH3 run site is still as posted below.
Be there!

W(h)ither Songkhla?

With more departures of long-standing fixtures of the Songkhla social scene rumored this week there is a real end of an era feeling about the place at the moment and maybe SH3's current attendance problems are a reflection of that rather than anything else. But this Saturday with the run closer to Hatyai than Songkhla, we are being promised an influx of runners from HH3 to keep the old bull afloat for another week while our "regulars" continue to languish in foreign parts building lodges, earning money or just driving themselves to heart attacks. But it would nevertheless be highly appreciated if anyone who can, could please turn up this week, if for no other reason than to drink a few beers to try to make up for last week's beer-truck meltdown!

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1909, Saturday January 27, 2018, 4:00 p.m.
Hares: Innuendo and All Black
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 10.2k to the Nam Noi traffic lights and turn right. After 1.1k follow the road through the market past Wat Nam Noi Nok and continue up the road for another 2.65k until you see an SH3 sign, then turn right and follow the road for 300m to the run site (coordinates 7° 05'19,30 N 100° 30'40,93 E). If you are coming from the New Hatyai road, the turning is 1.75k and is on the left.

Sunday's HH3 run will be at Super Pig's auxiliary residence near the former abattoir in Soi 10 at the PSU end of Poonakan (6.998133°N 100.515269°E). The hare is highly likely to be Robocop and/or Sex Printer as HH3 continues to suffer an acute hare shortage.

Meanwhile Friday should have been quiz night, but with Pubic Beard  still undergoing chemo (get well soon Eric!) and the Office Bar firmly shut since the staff walk-out after New Year, it looks as if that one is on ice pending better times. Shame 'cos the SH3 team were up for it with two of the three in-town members off the juice and at full intellectual strength. Let's hope for better things in February.

How many trees died....

... to build this little lodge?

Beaver technology has clearly moved on somewhat from the olden days of logs and wattle but as the new beaver lodge takes shape in Isaan it's not just the forests that are dying.

SH3 is frankly on the brink as attendance slumped yesterday to a figure that would have shamed even the chronically under-supported Full Moon Hash. Ok, so the weather was crap and there were competing attractions, and a lot of people are not in town, but unless there is a swing away from the "I'll go next week" mentality that has crept into hashing in Songkhla  there is going to come a point at which it will no longer be possible to pretend that SH3 is viable. Matters are not helped by the sudden upswing in beer-aversion and that has another week to go before normality is resumed; but the beer truck was a needless luxury yesterday as a couple of 6-packs from 7-11 would have covered what was consumed.

But a good run yesterday with all 11 hounds, only 9 of whom were human, hitting one or other of the trails and only one of the two hares and the beer truck driver keeping guard at the run site. And most people went on-on to Thung Jaeng afterwards even if the karaoke machine was not called into use. But, as the lady said,"we can't go on like this"!

Thursday, January 18, 2018

On the road again
in the new Yala road, near the pig farm; the bit they don't use yet as they haven't worked out how to remove the top of the hill.

Ok, ok, so it ain't Willie Nelson but with the promise of dinner and karaoke at Thung Jaeng afterwards maybe this week we can get our numbers up above the magic 30 which we haven't reached so far this year.
Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1908, Saturday January 20th 2017, 4:00 p.m.
Hare: Sex Sprinter and friends
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the new Yala road for 6.5k and cross the carriageway onto the unused section of road then follow it for 500m to the run site at the top of the hill (7.086898° N 100.610967°E). From Hatyai the suggested route is to take the old Hatyai road to the Kuan Hin traffic lights then turn right and go 4k, then follow the road straight ahead (i.e. left, as the road bends right). Go 1k then follow the hard top road left at the 4-way intersection for 500m and at the junction with the NYR, creep along the hard shoulder on the right for 50m onto the unused section.

Sunday's HH3 run is near Khun Thong: Take the old Yala road for 16k and turn right just before Wat Khun Thong then go about 1.1k and turn right onto the track for 250m to the runsite in the quarry at  7.042535° N 100.646147°E. From Hatyai, get to Tha Kham and then head East to the big tree and go straight ahead for 2.5k, then left for 250m etc. The hare is rrrrrRooo.... you know!

Sunday, January 14, 2018

Yes, this Sala!

This week's HH3 run really is at Sala Hin Kiang as shown in the map above. The hares seem to be largely composed of pussies and dogs, with participation from Sagai, Budokan and Eeyore as well as Sex Printer and Toy Boy who will no doubt be there giving a helping hand.
The run will start at or shortly after 4:00 p.m. or when you get there if you let us know you're coming.

Run 1907 Post Mortem

Another Sai Khao Resort run, which you would think had been done to death, but with thanks to rubber farmers & mother nature, the terrain here, and indeed most of our hashing areas, changes constantly, and what was once familiar becomes almost virginal again. A bit like our bar girls I’ve been told. Anyway back to statistics; the long run was logged at 8.4km including all false trails & checkbacks, but apart from Sex Sprinter, most of the smallish pack ran closer to, and a fairly moderate 220m of ascent.
Various connotations of a flat short, an interesting short & a medium run were available of 4.0 km, 4.0 km & 6.0 km lengths respectively, all revolving around the beerstop, which you would think would keep everyone happy. As it was, only the GM completed the medium run, and most of the short runners had to find their own way back to the runsite, due to the shreddy becoming increasingly harder to find after being severely water-logged . A giant umbrella may have helped even more in retrospect. Ah well, such is nature, it giveth & it taketh.

Hare today, gone tomorrow

This week's hare's may not be around for very long as they have both succumbed to work addiction and are off for another fix shortly. So...

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1907, Saturday January 13, 2017, 4:00 p.m.
Hares: Yardstick and Little Tool.
Misdirections: From the Koh Yor intersection take the Old Hatyai Road and turn left at the 4.7km turnoff for 6.0km to Tha Kham. At the new Tha Kham traffic lights turn left (head east) for 4.0km to the runsite. From Songkhla (from the Kao Seng intersection) take the Old Yala Road for 16km (5.3km from the NYR / OYR intersection at Ang Thong) and turn right just before Wat Kuhn Thong. Proceed 5.3km going past the big tree in the middle of the road to the runsite (1.8km from the big tree). From Hatyai, get to Tha Kham and follow the directions above (east for 4k, etc.) The runsite is near the Sai Khao Resort opposite the BMX track;  co-ordinates are:  N7° 02.342'  E100° 36.545'.

No news yet on HH3's run this Sunday - perhaps people are still trying to find the beer stop from last week! Information will be posted here when available.

PS. Don't forget that it is Children's Day this Saturday and the roads are likely to be extra-congested. So why not set off 15 minutes early to make sure you don't miss the start of the run - you know it makes sense!

Sunday, January 7, 2018

HH3 today: Not that sala!

Clarification that today's run site is not at Sala Hin Kiang but at the new big sala which is visible in the fields on the left as you drive from Tha Kham to Wat Nern Pichit. So the directions should read: From Tha Kham head South for about 1.5k and turn left along the dirt road. From Wat Keow Kloy go North for about 500m and the dirt road is on the right

1906: Now you see it...

Now you don't!
The top picture is today's run in all it's 6.4k (a bit more with all the checks) glory and as you can see from the picture below it, it's not the first time we've run in the area; in fact over the last 10 years this must have been one of the most popular areas we have used. So it was all the stranger that no one other than Aftershock seemed to have any idea where we were, and he POE'd to avoid the reward for being a clever sod!
The Thai contingent were mostly absent this week for a wedding so it was a small pack which set out on the long run with an even smaller contingent for the short run. Both runs benefited from late arrivals and Loose Moose and Buzz Off were last back  having set out after the last short runner, Only a Yolk,  had already departed on her own, and they then decided to tackle the long run anyway. They measured the long run at over 8k having taken advice from the same bunch of lumberjacks who had destroyed the 6th F at the high point of the run, which was 110m. Meanwhile the sweeping hare ran out of oomph and was accompanied on a hastily arranged medium run (not a short cut!) by the GM and they were narrowly the first home after the short runners with the long run pack coming in more or less together, minus the errant Yardstick who went AWOL at the 6th F because he didn't ask the lumberjacks' advice! But then he's not Canadian is he?

Not a great start to 2018 turn-out-wise but things can only get better (can't they?) We can probably expect better runs this year as well, as this was set rather off-the-cuff in view of the advertised hare's lack of availability and the actual hares crowded lifestyle. But as the sun set behind the hills and the circle ground it's way to a conclusion there was still plenty of support for the beer truck despite  some January abstemiators trying to make up for all the abuse to their livers over the festive season.

So it's on on to HH3 tomorrow at the new big sala between Tha Kham and Keow Kloy and for those who enjoy the surreal experience of a Sex Sprinter map here it is!
...and for those who don't: From Tha Kham go South for 1.5k and turn left along the dirt road. From Wat Keow Kloy, go North for 500m and turn right oto the dirt road.

Dooty calls!

If you didn't make it to the last couple of runs of 2017 (and you are not alone) then it may have escaped your notice that they were, to put it mildly, lightly attended. But with Christmas, New Year and the rainy season (hopefully) behind us, there really is every reason to gird your loins, put on a pair of old runners and join SH3 this weekend to burn off a few of those excess pounds you've put on and then to put them all back on again after the run with the aid of a few beers.

More than that, if you know of anyone who has ever had half a mind to give the hash a try (and you only need half a mind to do it!) then this is the weekend to use all your persuasive powers to prevail upon them to make it this Saturday. There is even the possibility of a pick-up/drop off for runners living in Hatyai, details of which will be given out later if that seems like a good idea. And for those needing a ride from Songkhla the beer truck will be leaving the Hot Bread Shop as always at 2:30 p.m.

Details of the run are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1906, Saturday January 6, 2018, 4:00 p.m.
Hare: Egghead
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4.7k and turn left for 9.6k (1.6k beyond Wat Keow Kloy in the direction of Wat Nern Pijit) to the runsite on the right at 7 00.702°N  100 34.932°E. (From Hatyai, get to Tha Kham and go South for 3.6k, or get to Wat Keow Kloy via Poonakan road and turn right for 1.6k.)

No news yet of HH3's run on Sunday so details will be posted later here and/or on the fb Messenger thread.

Nice try Beaver! But no cigar. Incidentally I'm taking the opportunity to steal some more of you favorite country as you're not going to be here. Tee hee hee!
