Just for you!

This week sees Egghead's second attempt at setting a one-run-fits-all run having weakened at the beer stop last time round and let the less ambitious take a short cut. So how can he set a 7k run for the long runners that will only have the short runners doing 4k or so? Come along and find out on Saturday!

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1889, Saturday, September 2nd 2017, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Egghead and that sneaky little bitch.
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4k and turn left at the Kuan Hin traffic lights then go 5.2k and turn left opposite the temple arch at Borogam then go 500m to the run site opposite the big sala at N7.074584 E100.606303. If you are coming from Hatyai, the Kuan Hin Traffic lights are about 6.4k beyond the Nam Noi traffic lights and the turning is right. (For anyone who doesn't know how to get to the run site from Songkhla without going  through the Ko Yo intersection, add a comment below and I will put those directions up as well!)

Hatyai H3's run on Sunday is in the capable hands of Sex Printer and the rather less reliable hands of Robocop, but details are not currently being released. No doubt they will be as soon as this post hits the blog and they will therefore be added later!

Here is the track for yesterday's HH3 run, For the benefit of the directionally challenged, the two roads in the area are also marked. SH3's (well, Egghead's) habitual runsite on the chicken farm road (rightmost) is at the point where the road crosses the long run (green) at 360 6,  the runsite which Shortscrew used for both SH3 and HH3 on the road going up the hill, is at the point where the long and short (blue) runs divided and the stool-chucking runsite is just below where the short run leaves that road. The runs were 6.5 and 4.5k without the F's and X's, 8.2 and 5.3 with them. This probably accounted for why it took the long run about 1hr 15mins to get to the beer stop where they lingered for about 20 minutes. The short run reached it in 45 minutes and moved on quickly, apart from Sex Teacher, who had already done the 10k in Songkhla that morning (along with Geng Curry, who is off the beer and had no reason to hang around) so was feeling the strain, which only 2 beers could relieve. The long run, had they ascended all the upward F's and X's would have taken in a total ascent of around 260m while the short run ascended 100m from the runsite to the 3rd check so must have done a bit more than that altogether. Luk Long lived up to his name and was the only person to become mislaid. In fairness that was because none of the other long runners had been considerate enough to break the 6th 360. Luk Long reached it but then for some reason decided to return to the previous check and was in the process of crossing into the next valley when rescued by the hare and had to be forced to accept a ride back to the beer stop from where he again lost the plot and ended up coming in to the run site from the wrong side. It's in the genes I tell you!

In the footsteps of Robocop

You ran clockwise from lower right, about 7.5km long with just 150m of ascent. The prize-winning false trail is at the upper right. The short-run shortcut cut right across the middle
Only a couple notable features on this one. Palm Job won the special prize for being first to the one and only false trail (vs. 11 360s). This earned him a liter can of Hefe-Weisse from Bavaria which he apparently didn't like because it wasn't as strong as Leo. What's wrong with these Germans anway?

And we lost Little Tool, though only temporarily. He claims the paper crossed itself. Er, what? Jesus Nut mounted a search and rescue mission, maybe because there was a big bowl of good vegetarian curry locked inside of LT's car.

And yes, I did steal bits of it from Robocop's run last Sunday, but only because I'd decided to run here before he laid his run. So really he stole it from me, just a week earlier in the time-space continuum.

Is this what Beaver has in mind?

Ok, so we're missing a tree or two but with Beaver's sudden and potentially destabilizing interest in academic research, he may just be about to conduct some ghastly experiment on us involving behaving like hamsters. Are we worried? Not so long as he can build a beer dispenser into the equipment!
Anyway, he is this week's SH3 hare and the run details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1888 Saturday, August 26, 2017, 4:30 p.m.
Hare Beavershot
Misdirections: From The Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4.7k and turn left for 10.9k then turn right (just before Wat Nern Pijit). Go 200m and bear right over a culvert then go another 500m and turn right to the run site in 200m. GPS:  6°59'53.57"N 100°34'34.19"E

Sunday's HH3 run is a Kai Jeow affair and providing tomorrow morning's recce doesn't reveal any last minute development work, the run site will be on the football pitch behind Ban Sai Kao (From the 'big tree' at Sai Kao, turn left (if coming from the old Yala road), or right (if coming from Tha Kham) and go 150m then go straight ahead as the road bears right. Follow the road through the village for about 1km and park considerately around the edge of the football pitch (in case the local lads have some footie organized for later.) GPS: N7 02.000 E100 37.495

Finally, tomorrow night the much reduced Hash team will be bravely trying to maintain their recent run of successes, at this month's quiz night at the Office Bar (Friday 25 August 2017, 8:00 p.m.. Do come along and help or hinder them in their endeavors if you can possibly manage it as a number of regulars apparently can't so the team can do with all the support it can get!

Beaver tree-felling: The true story

Now I enjoy a good beaver mishap photo or video as much as the next man, especially if he's Canadian. But The Online Scum's fact-checking department takes a more serious view.

What their research turned up was a remarkable academic paper entitled "Directional Tree Felling by Beavers (Castor canadensis)". You probably don't believe that, so here's a link.

Therefore, sadly, it appears that Mr. Yao's photo is Fake News. Beavers rule!
See?! Never underestimate a beaver!

Spaghetti Junction

This week's SH3 run will be on the hill near Songkhla's very own (under construction) Spaghetti Junction, just 14 km drive from downtown Sisuda Road. This turf has not been hashed for some time. The hares are presenting a beautiful run with no big hills, through gentle tracks and with spectacular views. The beer truck will provide transport from Hot Bread Shop departing at 3:30 p.m.
Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers run #1887, Saturday, August 19, 2017, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Kevin and Stewart

a.k.a Little Tool and Trailer Trash
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the New Yala Road for 800m. Turn left at the first hash sign where the Star Golf Driving Range used to be. Go 2.8 km up the hill (passing the Kanchanaphisek Songkhla National Library and the Home of Faith). Then turn left at the second hash sign onto a small cement road and go 250m to find the run site on the right at 7°07'06.1"N 100°36'05.8"E (7.118372, 100.601599) .

Is there a knight in shining armor out there to help a damsel in distress?
Egghead won't be arriving at the run site until just before the run starts but has the beer from last week at home. Only a Yolk can take it earlier (and act as Hash Cash) but has concerns about driving the Egg-truck up the hill. Is there someone who could meet her at the Home of Faith at about 3:45 p.m. and either take her and the beer up to the run site, or drive the Egg-truck up there?

Sunday's HH3 ran mup is as below:
From Songkhla take the 4.7k turning off the old Hatyai road and follow it  for about 12k (past Wat Nern Pijit), then turn right by the hash sign for about 1k to the run site on the right. From Hatyai, there may be a sign at the turn off just after Wat Tung Ngai on Poonakan, but to be safe get to Wat Keow Kloy at the top of Poonakan and turn right for about 4k then turn right etc.

Jewelry-stealing carrots

Missing any jewelry or other small personal items? You might want to check out the thieving carrots in your backyard. Here's the shocking story, and as you can see in the last paragraph, it's by no means the first time the dreaded Trump-colored root has swiped the family gems.

Pecking order

Run 1886...where did you go?

Approximate location of about 30 hashers
August 12th 2017. On On  Gan Yao

Last chance to see...

This evening may be Softy and Temp's last evening in Songkhla prior to their move to the USA and it's going to be a long while before they're back. So tonight there will be a farewell dinner at the Korakot Restaurant (the same restaurant that we used for our birthday run last year) on the new Hatyai road starting around 6/6:30 p.m. All are welcome.
Be there!

Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1886, Saturday August 12, 2017.  16:30

(Co Ordinates: 7°00’12.89”N   100°35’54.13E)

Instructions

After dressing yourself appropriately in the latest Paris fashions for discerning hashers, proceed to the Koh Yoh intersection. Enjoy the pleasant ambience and good nature of about 200  drivers stuck in a 2 kilometer traffic jam. Proceed for 4.7KM down the old Hat Yai Road. Turn left and go for 10.6KM. Turn left at the sign. Go for 1.5KM and turn left at the sign. Drive a couple of hundred meters and park by the Hares Lotus HiLux.

Note: The hare had enough of this one run for all bollox and so has crafted individually tailored runs for each runner. 37 runs, customised to suite ones individuals tastes and peculiarities. For example, as I hear Albert is back, his run is set on tasteful green landmines and wends its way over 120 kilometers of lush countryside to finish in a swamp just over the Malaysian border.

Technical glitch

Due to an incompatability between the poster's brain and anything operating with the aid of electricity, the only way to get the above directions out to the masses for Saturday's SH3 run is apparently by taking a screen shot of the Hare's timely message on the facebook thingy and pasting it below. Duhhhh!

Sunday's HH3 runsite can also be best appreciated as a visual:
But if you like your directions served up on a plate: From Wat Keow Kloy take Poonakan for 7k and turn left into Thanon Ban Nai Lai for about 1 k and then turn right and follow the road until you see the hash sign on the left on the road leading up to the quarry. The hare is Robocop so expect no mercy!

HH3 this afternoon

...Oh yes, here it is!
Which loosely translates to:  From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for about 10k to the Nam Noi traffic lights and head East towards Tha Kham. Turn right after Wat Pru Toh at about 3.5k and follow the road past the Or Bor Tor for, ooh..., as long as you need to until you see the hash sign on the left. The Poonakan option is to turn right into Thanon Pru Toh TungNgai about 5k down from Wat Keow Kloy then look for the sign on the right.

!885 and Full Moon 138

Here are yesterday's 2 runs. SH3's 1885 long run (light blue) was the longest at 6.8k with all the F's and the one X included, but without those was about 5.2k. There was a shorter option (dark blue) from the beer stop for which all the usual suspects opted, and which cut out about 600 meters, but more to the point avoided 2 checks, 3 F's and the X so that everybody came in at about the same time and All Black managed to lead the pack home for the first time.
The full moon run which followed had definite long (green: 4.9k) and short (yellow: 3.5k options) with only Geng Curry and Luk Long going for the short run and Sex Teacher, after her triumph at the SH3 run, doing the whole long run.
The party which followed was notable for manifestly failing to drink all the beer, so another attempt will have to be made on that this afternoon! This may have been a result of the absence of some of our more alcoholically inclined runners who shall remain nameless... nah, ok, Yardo, Beaver, Little Tool and Conebrain) but also probably had a lot to do with Temporary Relief's brave efforts to convert everybody to a more spiritual approach to alcoholic consumption, and the big clear up this morning located several empty bottles which would suggest that her efforts to clear out the drinks cabinet are bearing some fruit.
Thanks to everybody who came, ran and contributed food and booze and just made the whole thing another awesome evening. So now it's on on to HH3...now where was that runsite...?

Double Bubble

Two runs this Saturday plus a party at Egg Towers in honor of Yolk's Poke's thirty somethingth birthday. First up is the SH3 run which will be an A-B run on the one-run-almost-fits-all theme successfully pioneered by Beaver last week.
Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1885, Saturday August 5, 2017, Transport leaves the B site (below) at 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Egghead and that sneaky little bitch, Harram
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4k and turn left at the Kuan Hin traffic lights. Go 5.2k and turn right through the temple arch at Wat Borgam and after 150m, bear right before the wat and follow the road keeping the temple wall on your left for 300m, then turn left at the T junction and go about 100m then turn right and park somewhere on the side of the road, Or go another 50m and turn into the gate at Egg Towers and park considerately on the grass avoiding killing any goats, trees or other miscellaneous organisms that may be lurking there. (N.B. don't block the drive as that's how you're going to leave for the run!). Egg Towers is at 7.070403 N 100.596387 E.

The Full Moon H3 run will follow the SH3 circle so anyone wanting to make that run should aim to arrive before 6:30 p.m. The hare is Kai Jeow and there will be both 'long' and short runs neither of which should take more than 45 minutes to complete. Usual stuff applies: Don't forget to bring a hand/head light if you intend to run and some food if you can manage it. The SH3 BBQ will be fired up and available if you want bring stuff to cook on site. The food will be served and party stuff will begin once the FMH3 runners have returned (or at least after they have actually set off!) The contents of the SH3 beer truck will be on sale until they run out and there have been some generous pledges of beer and other alcoholic delights (i.e. the contents of Softy and Temp's drinks cabinet) to keep the party refreshed.

Hatyai H3's run on Sunday is being set by Robocop and is in the vicinity of the dam at Pru Toh, Get to the Nam Noi traffic lights and head towards Tha Kham for about 1.5k then look for a sign on the right and follow the track etc. If and when a map appears it will be added below!

Tung Jaeng tonight

Well, that's what happen when HH3 circles get out of hand!
So there seem to be about 15-20 people committed to this evenings 6:30 p.m. dinner date at Thung Jaeng, (including a good sized HH3 contingent including Sex Sprinter who's already plastered!) So why not come along and swell the numbers? The more the merrier - and we're taking pledges to book the soundproof karaoke room!
