A funeral and an erection

Saturday's activities began with a farewell to Budokan's dad at Wat Kaw Seua in Hatyai. Note the special t-shirts printed for the occasion.
The Cube makes a bid for GM-ship, only to be beaten out by Khii Ling.
The GM-elect (right) celebrates her victory. May she reign long and wisely.
The rabble respond to the election of a (mostly) young new committee. And that can only be a good thing, given how pathetic and worn out the old one was.

Stick and Perky lay a big one

First up the hill, then around it. 8km in total, taking the hares over 5 hours to set but the hounds only about 1:16 to run. None of the usual road running at the end and good reviews all around, apart from some flakey paper-laying here and there. Could this be a new super-hare Stick Insect?!

Happier times

For those who may not have heard, Superpig's Dad, (Warthog at SH3) died late on Tuesday afternoon. Details of the funeral will follow but he is lying at Wat Ko Sur near Hatyai Stadium and prayers are at 7:00 p.m. every evening. HH3 will be there most evenings and there is a deputation from SH3 attending this evening (Thursday).

To happier matters; The SH3 AGM run on Saturday is:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1810, Saturday 27th February 2016, 4:15 p.m. with the AGM taking place immediately before the run.
Hares: Stick Insect and Perky
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng intersection take the old Yala road for 11k and turn right. Go 1k to the runsite on the right between the wat and the football field.

(From Hatyai either go to the Ko Yo intersection then turn left up the New Yala road for about 9k to Ang Thong, then turn right onto the old Yala road for 1k and turn right for 1k to the runsite on the right. OR from Tha Kham take the road East towards the big tree for about 5k and turn left on the road headed towards Kao Long for 500m, then bear right and follow the road for about 3k through the village and across 2 crossroads to the runsite on the left between the football field and the wat.

The HH3 run on Sunday (28th February) will be at Nam Noi: from the Ko Yo  intersection, take the Old Hatyai road for 10k and turn right at the Nam Noi traffic lights then go about 1.5k and turn right just before the market and follow the road/track for 700m to the runsite. The hare was due to be Toy Boy, but confirmation of the funeral arrangements may cause some changes, which will be posted here if neccesary.

Finally, on Friday night (26th February), there will be a quiz night at the Office Bar at 8 p.m.'ish when the quiz master will be Koko. The hash team will be making up the numbers again and there is a real chance that the Hash ladies will also be sending along a team to humble the men, who are potentially on a 3-time losing streak, yet again.

Nice run site!

This Month's full moon run features the same old hare but a new (really, really!) run site.
Details are:
Hatyai Full Moon Hash House Harriers run #126, Tuesday 23rd February 2016, 7:00 p.m.
Hare: Kai Jeow
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4.7k and turn left for 4k then left for 1.6k then right for about 300m. Stop before you hit the lake.
If you are coming from Hatyai, you will either need to go to the Kuan Hin turning on the old road and do a U turn to get to the 4.7k turn opposite Wat Nern Salai, or come via the the Tha Kham crossroads, from which go about 2k North and turn right, then go 1.6k etc.
Usual stuff applies. Bring a hand/head light if you intend to run, some food if you can manage it and some beer if you want to, or purchase Full Moon Special Brew at 40 Baht per can.

The mystery of the missing stone

This week's hare seems to have mislaid something. If you see it on your travels, please pick it up and take it to the runsite tomorrow.
Here are the details: Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1809, Saturday February 20th, 4:30 p.m.
Hare: Gan Yao
Misdirections, or A Guide to the Spatial Whereabouts of Gan Yao’s jolly trot: From the Koh Yor Intersection take the old Hat Yai road for 4.7km. Turn left and drive 10km, passing Wat Keow Kloy at 7.7km on your right. At 10km go left. After 100m bear left and drive for 2.2 km (at 0.6 km go right BUT WATCH FOR THE MISSING STONE IN THE ROAD, IT COULD SERIOUSLY DAMAGE YOUR CAR OR WORSE IF YOU'RE ON A BIKE)
Park next to the hare’s Lambourghini, which will be disguised as a Toyota pick up.

Sunday's HH3 run is from just below Kuan Samroot otherwise known as the Maditation Center: From Wat Keow Kloy take Poonakan for about 5.5k and turn left just before Wat Tungnai. Go about 2k and turn left then follow signs to the run site. The hares are Robocop and Sex Racing anxious to have another go at making up for  the run about 4 weeks ago (and the ones 3 and 2 weeks ago!)

The run they couldn't short-cut; yeah, right!

What do you have to do to stop the HH3 boys from short-cutting? Easy! Set a run so close to a circle as makes no difference and put a bloody great hill in the center of it! Did it work? Nope! Sex Printer and Sex Blackman were first home having "lost paper" at the check before last and opted for a kilometer and a half of road running to end off what was a pretty flat and traily run up until then, rather then go via the paper, over the hill and home. Still, there's no accounting for taste.
The short run meanwhile gamely stuck to it, despite having only got 50% of the hare's pre-run instructions, and thus spending 15 minutes at the final 360 in a vain search for squares instead of just following the shreddy they had already found, home. Later arrivals at the check included Toa Ngoc, recently returned from foreign climes, who suffered a fainting fit and had to be coaxed back into activity by the threat from her mum of being left up at the top of the hill.
The stats department advises a hefty 8.7k for the long run including all the F's and the single X, although that wasn't enough for Stick Insect who managed to rack up 9.1k. But the total ascent was barely 200 meters and the highest point only 92m. The short run was also a little on the long side at 4.3k with a total ascent of about 110m and the same top spot as the long run.

Wish you were here.

Tomorrow's SH3 run is a town run as there is the competing attraction (sic) of the HH3 not-run-and-camp-out (which takes place from 3:00 p.m. tomorrow and will finish sometime on Sunday morning. If you want to join that, you need to be at Phudan Valley on Poonakan Road to catch a 4-wheel drive up to the camp site, and lesser cars can be left there overnight and picked up on Sunday. The cost for regular HH3 runners is 200 Baht.)
The SH3 details this week are simple:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run#1808, Saturday, February 13th, 2016. 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Stick Insect and Kee Ling
Run starts (and ends) at the Bai Meang Restaurant in Sadao Road.
The hares are promising several beer stops, some of which will be sponsored, but runners are encouraged to take a couple of hundred Baht along with them to buy a beer or two from the unsponsored ones to try to help out the currently financially challenged beer truck! It is confidently expected that there will be an On! On! after at Bai Meang and/or the Pizza Man next door and then anywhere else that takes your fancy!
On Sunday (14th February, 4:15'ish) there will be the normal HH3 run, although this week's hare, Kai Jeow, is promising some relief from the recent diet of hills, hills, hills and more hills! The directions to the run site are: (from Hatyai) get to Tha Kham and take the road East towards the big tree for about 5k and turn left on the road headed towards Kao Long for about 400m to the run site on the left just after the crematorium. From Songkhla, the shortest route is to get to the Ang Thong junction of the old and new Yala roads and go 1k South on the OYR then turn right (about 400m before Tung Wang) and go ahead for 4.3k (i.e. keep on the same road including going across two crossroads and going through two bendy villages before hitting the Kao Long road.) The run site is on the right, 400m before the road hits the Tha Kham-Tung Wang road.

Run 1807

We couldn’t find any real life Canucks to join us, so we thought we would do a run in the rough shape of their royal weed.
The long run overall length was 8.2kms, which included the 2 check-backs, 5 false trails, and 13 checks, one of which was the beer stop. Amazingly this check seemed to play havock with the GM's navigational computer, probably due to a lack of beer, that caused him to find the runsite by climbing over the hill and back-tracking along the out trail. Everyone else followed paper along a nice scenic, relatively flat, trail around the base of the hill. The total ascent on the long run was about 250m, reaching a maximum height of 122m. The short run was just 2.7kms, with a total ascent of about 100m.

Post colonial harmony

As our currently ranking Brit (Not for long, baby! ed), can I cast aside my veil of anonymity and say how nice it is to see our erstwhile children coming together and setting a run - shame they couldn't have got a Kiwi and a Canuck on the team but they are there in spirit!
So putting patriotic pride back in the closet where it belongs, Saturday's run will be:

Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1807, Saturday February 6, 2016, 4:30 p.m.
Hares; Yardstick and All Black
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng intersection take the Old Yala Road for 16k (5.3k from the NYR / OYR intersection at Ang Thong) and turn right just before Wat Khun Thong. After 2k turn left and proceed approximately 1.2k to the runsite amongst the rubber trees. For Hatyai visitors take the Nam Noi -Thung Wang road from Nam Noi, for 13k, (6k past Ban Tha Kam) to Ban Sai Kao then go straight ahead past the big tree for another 1.4k and turn right etc.

Hatyai H3's run on Sunday will be another Robocop/Sex Racing affair from just across the road from last week's runsite in Kuan Jong: take the Ban Nai Rai turning off of Poonakan (about 7.5k down from Wat Keow Kloy) and follow the road for about 3.3k, then look for a sign on the right and follow signs/paper to the runsite.
