Movin' on up!

Sunday's HH3 runsite (repeat Sunday's HH3 runsite, NOT today's SH3 runsite) has moved up Poonakan by 5k or so to the football field at Tungnai as with the death during the week of Hennessy, No one has had time to mow the grass at Soi 10 which is apparently head-high!

Today's SH3 run site is still as posted below.
Be there!

W(h)ither Songkhla?

With more departures of long-standing fixtures of the Songkhla social scene rumored this week there is a real end of an era feeling about the place at the moment and maybe SH3's current attendance problems are a reflection of that rather than anything else. But this Saturday with the run closer to Hatyai than Songkhla, we are being promised an influx of runners from HH3 to keep the old bull afloat for another week while our "regulars" continue to languish in foreign parts building lodges, earning money or just driving themselves to heart attacks. But it would nevertheless be highly appreciated if anyone who can, could please turn up this week, if for no other reason than to drink a few beers to try to make up for last week's beer-truck meltdown!

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1909, Saturday January 27, 2018, 4:00 p.m.
Hares: Innuendo and All Black
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 10.2k to the Nam Noi traffic lights and turn right. After 1.1k follow the road through the market past Wat Nam Noi Nok and continue up the road for another 2.65k until you see an SH3 sign, then turn right and follow the road for 300m to the run site (coordinates 7° 05'19,30 N 100° 30'40,93 E). If you are coming from the New Hatyai road, the turning is 1.75k and is on the left.

Sunday's HH3 run will be at Super Pig's auxiliary residence near the former abattoir in Soi 10 at the PSU end of Poonakan (6.998133°N 100.515269°E). The hare is highly likely to be Robocop and/or Sex Printer as HH3 continues to suffer an acute hare shortage.

Meanwhile Friday should have been quiz night, but with Pubic Beard  still undergoing chemo (get well soon Eric!) and the Office Bar firmly shut since the staff walk-out after New Year, it looks as if that one is on ice pending better times. Shame 'cos the SH3 team were up for it with two of the three in-town members off the juice and at full intellectual strength. Let's hope for better things in February.

How many trees died....

... to build this little lodge?

Beaver technology has clearly moved on somewhat from the olden days of logs and wattle but as the new beaver lodge takes shape in Isaan it's not just the forests that are dying.

SH3 is frankly on the brink as attendance slumped yesterday to a figure that would have shamed even the chronically under-supported Full Moon Hash. Ok, so the weather was crap and there were competing attractions, and a lot of people are not in town, but unless there is a swing away from the "I'll go next week" mentality that has crept into hashing in Songkhla  there is going to come a point at which it will no longer be possible to pretend that SH3 is viable. Matters are not helped by the sudden upswing in beer-aversion and that has another week to go before normality is resumed; but the beer truck was a needless luxury yesterday as a couple of 6-packs from 7-11 would have covered what was consumed.

But a good run yesterday with all 11 hounds, only 9 of whom were human, hitting one or other of the trails and only one of the two hares and the beer truck driver keeping guard at the run site. And most people went on-on to Thung Jaeng afterwards even if the karaoke machine was not called into use. But, as the lady said,"we can't go on like this"!

On the road again

...as in the new Yala road, near the pig farm; the bit they don't use yet as they haven't worked out how to remove the top of the hill.

Ok, ok, so it ain't Willie Nelson but with the promise of dinner and karaoke at Thung Jaeng afterwards maybe this week we can get our numbers up above the magic 30 which we haven't reached so far this year.
Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1908, Saturday January 20th 2017, 4:00 p.m.
Hare: Sex Sprinter and friends
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the new Yala road for 6.5k and cross the carriageway onto the unused section of road then follow it for 500m to the run site at the top of the hill (7.086898° N 100.610967°E). From Hatyai the suggested route is to take the old Hatyai road to the Kuan Hin traffic lights then turn right and go 4k, then follow the road straight ahead (i.e. left, as the road bends right). Go 1k then follow the hard top road left at the 4-way intersection for 500m and at the junction with the NYR, creep along the hard shoulder on the right for 50m onto the unused section.

Sunday's HH3 run is near Khun Thong: Take the old Yala road for 16k and turn right just before Wat Khun Thong then go about 1.1k and turn right onto the track for 250m to the runsite in the quarry at  7.042535° N 100.646147°E. From Hatyai, get to Tha Kham and then head East to the big tree and go straight ahead for 2.5k, then left for 250m etc. The hare is rrrrrRooo.... you know!

Yes, this Sala!

This week's HH3 run really is at Sala Hin Kiang as shown in the map above. The hares seem to be largely composed of pussies and dogs, with participation from Sagai, Budokan and Eeyore as well as Sex Printer and Toy Boy who will no doubt be there giving a helping hand.
The run will start at or shortly after 4:00 p.m. or when you get there if you let us know you're coming.

Run 1907 Post Mortem

Another Sai Khao Resort run, which you would think had been done to death, but with thanks to rubber farmers & mother nature, the terrain here, and indeed most of our hashing areas, changes constantly, and what was once familiar becomes almost virginal again. A bit like our bar girls I’ve been told. Anyway back to statistics; the long run was logged at 8.4km including all false trails & checkbacks, but apart from Sex Sprinter, most of the smallish pack ran closer to 7.km, and a fairly moderate 220m of ascent.
Various connotations of a flat short, an interesting short & a medium run were available of 4.0 km, 4.0 km & 6.0 km lengths respectively, all revolving around the beerstop, which you would think would keep everyone happy. As it was, only the GM completed the medium run, and most of the short runners had to find their own way back to the runsite, due to the shreddy becoming increasingly harder to find after being severely water-logged . A giant umbrella may have helped even more in retrospect. Ah well, such is nature, it giveth & it taketh.

Hare today, gone tomorrow

This week's hare's may not be around for very long as they have both succumbed to work addiction and are off for another fix shortly. So...

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1907, Saturday January 13, 2017, 4:00 p.m.
Hares: Yardstick and Little Tool.
Misdirections: From the Koh Yor intersection take the Old Hatyai Road and turn left at the 4.7km turnoff for 6.0km to Tha Kham. At the new Tha Kham traffic lights turn left (head east) for 4.0km to the runsite. From Songkhla (from the Kao Seng intersection) take the Old Yala Road for 16km (5.3km from the NYR / OYR intersection at Ang Thong) and turn right just before Wat Kuhn Thong. Proceed 5.3km going past the big tree in the middle of the road to the runsite (1.8km from the big tree). From Hatyai, get to Tha Kham and follow the directions above (east for 4k, etc.) The runsite is near the Sai Khao Resort opposite the BMX track;  co-ordinates are:  N7° 02.342'  E100° 36.545'.

No news yet on HH3's run this Sunday - perhaps people are still trying to find the beer stop from last week! Information will be posted here when available.

PS. Don't forget that it is Children's Day this Saturday and the roads are likely to be extra-congested. So why not set off 15 minutes early to make sure you don't miss the start of the run - you know it makes sense!

HH3 today: Not that sala!

Clarification that today's run site is not at Sala Hin Kiang but at the new big sala which is visible in the fields on the left as you drive from Tha Kham to Wat Nern Pichit. So the directions should read: From Tha Kham head South for about 1.5k and turn left along the dirt road. From Wat Keow Kloy go North for about 500m and the dirt road is on the right

1906: Now you see it...

Now you don't!
The top picture is today's run in all it's 6.4k (a bit more with all the checks) glory and as you can see from the picture below it, it's not the first time we've run in the area; in fact over the last 10 years this must have been one of the most popular areas we have used. So it was all the stranger that no one other than Aftershock seemed to have any idea where we were, and he POE'd to avoid the reward for being a clever sod!
The Thai contingent were mostly absent this week for a wedding so it was a small pack which set out on the long run with an even smaller contingent for the short run. Both runs benefited from late arrivals and Loose Moose and Buzz Off were last back  having set out after the last short runner, Only a Yolk,  had already departed on her own, and they then decided to tackle the long run anyway. They measured the long run at over 8k having taken advice from the same bunch of lumberjacks who had destroyed the 6th F at the high point of the run, which was 110m. Meanwhile the sweeping hare ran out of oomph and was accompanied on a hastily arranged medium run (not a short cut!) by the GM and they were narrowly the first home after the short runners with the long run pack coming in more or less together, minus the errant Yardstick who went AWOL at the 6th F because he didn't ask the lumberjacks' advice! But then he's not Canadian is he?

Not a great start to 2018 turn-out-wise but things can only get better (can't they?) We can probably expect better runs this year as well, as this was set rather off-the-cuff in view of the advertised hare's lack of availability and the actual hares crowded lifestyle. But as the sun set behind the hills and the circle ground it's way to a conclusion there was still plenty of support for the beer truck despite  some January abstemiators trying to make up for all the abuse to their livers over the festive season.

So it's on on to HH3 tomorrow at the new big sala between Tha Kham and Keow Kloy and for those who enjoy the surreal experience of a Sex Sprinter map here it is!
...and for those who don't: From Tha Kham go South for 1.5k and turn left along the dirt road. From Wat Keow Kloy, go North for 500m and turn right oto the dirt road.

Dooty calls!

If you didn't make it to the last couple of runs of 2017 (and you are not alone) then it may have escaped your notice that they were, to put it mildly, lightly attended. But with Christmas, New Year and the rainy season (hopefully) behind us, there really is every reason to gird your loins, put on a pair of old runners and join SH3 this weekend to burn off a few of those excess pounds you've put on and then to put them all back on again after the run with the aid of a few beers.

More than that, if you know of anyone who has ever had half a mind to give the hash a try (and you only need half a mind to do it!) then this is the weekend to use all your persuasive powers to prevail upon them to make it this Saturday. There is even the possibility of a pick-up/drop off for runners living in Hatyai, details of which will be given out later if that seems like a good idea. And for those needing a ride from Songkhla the beer truck will be leaving the Hot Bread Shop as always at 2:30 p.m.

Details of the run are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1906, Saturday January 6, 2018, 4:00 p.m.
Hare: Egghead
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4.7k and turn left for 9.6k (1.6k beyond Wat Keow Kloy in the direction of Wat Nern Pijit) to the runsite on the right at 7 00.702°N  100 34.932°E. (From Hatyai, get to Tha Kham and go South for 3.6k, or get to Wat Keow Kloy via Poonakan road and turn right for 1.6k.)

No news yet of HH3's run on Sunday so details will be posted later here and/or on the fb Messenger thread.

Footnote:
Nice try Beaver! But no cigar. Incidentally I'm taking the opportunity to steal some more of you favorite country as you're not going to be here. Tee hee hee!
