Full mooning

This month's full moon run will happen on Tuesday this week. Details below:

Hatyai Full Moon Hash House Harriers' run #146, Tuesday, July 16, 2019, 7:00 p.m.
Hare: Kai Jeow
Misdirections: From Songkhla get to the big tree and head west towards Tha Kham for about 1k then turn right under the temple arch;  After 600m bear left and follow the road heading for Phu Kao Long for 1k to the runsite on the right at 7.050051° 100.613587°. From Hatyai, get to Tha Kham and head east towards the big tree for about 5k then turn left under the temple arch etc.

Usual stuff applies: bring a head or hand light if you are intending to do either the long or short runs, and some food to share if you think you will be hungry after the run. Beer (Leo) will be on sale at 40 Baht a can but if you prefer to bring your own beer to share with your mates, that's ok.

Up memory Lane

Here is what yesterday's SH3 runs (short in green, long in red + green) look like on Google Earth - sadly no action-packed Relive version is available as Little Tool, who provides these things was the sole occupant of the run site during the run, opting to nurse some injuries as he finalized the preparation of the wonderful food that followed the pack's returns.

But otherwise, everybody did some sort of run with all but All Black and Peppered Pussy attempting the second hill crossing, or in the case of the short run the only hill crossing, at the top of which the errant Gan Yao was discovered having taken another route up the hill from the wrong side. The long run weighed in at 8.4k all up reducing to 7.3k without the F's and X's while the 'short' run topped 6k, or about 5.1k for those who avoided them. The total ascent for the long run was about 280m, while that for the short run was about 160m. Full marks to Nok Air, Lowbat and Tee for persevering with the second hill on the long run despite getting delayed before the beer stop, but still managing to get back to the run site before dark, and to everybody for getting down the jungle section of the descent without injury, the only casualty being a lost handphone, retrieved and returned to its owner by Chao Ngor.

Memory Lane

Here's a rather antiquated view of the entrance to Saturday's SH3 runsite neatly edited to hide the fact that the Street View image still shows the new Yala road as a two-lane road without a central divide. That has all changed of course and the NYR is now firmly divided although for anyone approaching from the southern direction, there is a U turn about 100m before the turning... just saying. Otherwise the closest U turn is about 1.4k beyond the turning into the runsite.
Full details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1983, Saturday July 13, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Egghead and Harram
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the new Yala road for 4.2k and turn left at  7.100799°N 100.597290°E. After 30m, take the rough track going straight ahead (i.e., don't follow the main track to the left) for about 150m to the run site. From Hatyai, get to the Ko Yo Intersection via either the new or old road then go under the overpass and take the first U turn  just after Bangkok Bank then come back to the turning into the NYR. Alternatively, on the old road, take the right turn at the Kuan Hin traffic lights just before the PTT station and after 4k go straight ahead as the road bends to the right. Follow the road for a further 1.5 k until it hits the NYR and turn left. The runsite entrance is about 2k down on the opposite side of the road - your choice of which U turn to use!

No tidings yet of the HH3 run this Sunday or of a possible full moon run next week. With the full moon actually falling on Wednesday (17th July) the second of two consecutive holidays so maybe Tuesday, 16th would be a good idea? Kai Jeow is standing by to be the hare! Watch this space!

The Hatyai H3 directions for Sunday seem to again involve the Tungnai-Prutoh road: From Poonakan, turn at Wat Tungnai (5k from Wat Keow Kloy on the right, 6k from the other end on the left) and go 2.8k to the runsite on the right at 7.029176° N 100.545478°E. Alternatively, get to the Nam Noi traffic lights and turn left (from Songkhla - right from Hatyai) and go 3.6 k then turn right at Wat Prutoh and follow the road for 1.4k to the runsite on the left. The Hares are Beanie, Sound Chef, 48 and Mrs Bean. Map below.

On-on Paak Maa

Sad news reaches us of Cat a.k.a. Paak Maa. After many years of retirement from the hash she finally lost her battle to outlive her owner, Stick Insect. So no doubt she's now in that big endless doggy trail in the sky frolicking with other great historical hash dogs like Chicken Killer and Fufu. Or more likely, snarling at them. We miss you, Cat.

New runners? (Now with corrected coordinates and map for HH3)

Saturday's hares have spent some time explaining to the locals what they were doing wandering apparently aimlessly in their countryside this week, and some have expressed interest in joining us this weekend, particularly this group, who seemed to think that the conditions might suit their temperament.

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1982, Saturday, July 6, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Wi Wi and Eightball.
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the New Hatyai Road for 8.2k and turn left (just after the True Moves tower) for 3.6k then turn right for around 2k to the run site at N07.04.086 (or 07.081) E100.30.638. (or 100.51063)
From Hatyai (or from Songkhla via the old Hatyai road): get to the Namnoi traffic lights and turn left (right, if coming from Songkhla) for 1.7k and turn left for about 2.0k to the run site.
Doggie directions: The hares advise that there may be a couple of road crossings involved in the run so it would be a good idea if you are intending to bring one or more doggies to make sure that you equip yourself with leads to get them across safely.

Sunday's HH3 run is from the big sala behind the CP factory: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 6.5k and do a U turn then come back 100m and turn left for about 1k to the runsite on the right behind the community center. From Hatyai, look out for earlier alternative left turns off the OHR which may be signed and then follow your instincts! The hares are ITUT and friends. Map to follow when available below!.

Slipping! And HH3 today

Here is run 1981 which with only 6 humans and 3 dogs on the long run and at 8.4k all-in (about 7k without all the F's and X's) took the pack the best part of 2 hours to complete. Meanwhile, the fleet-footed short-run pack, consisting of 7 people and 2 dogs, who alternated on the two halves of the run, were all at the beer stop within about 30 minutes and completed the 4.5k or so in around an hour.

The highlight (or low point, depending on how you look at it) of the long run was the trail out of the valley after the 4th 360 which required two of the dogs to be carried, with the result that the trail over some old felled timber gave way allowing at least two of the packs to slip through to the rocks below.

But the main slippage of the day was in our numbers which are again tending to fall towards the level where potential hares are starting to think, what's the point? This particular run took 2 long recces and 2 outings to lay and poor old Lucky who was present on all of them was too tired to even contemplate actually coming to the run lest she might be asked to do any more work! Her absence plus the absence of the third hare, Palm Job, who is forgiven since he provided the copious beer for the 2 beer stops, and the absence of pretty much the whole of our normal HH3 support, meant that the work that went into trying to lay a challenging run simply resulted in the small pack having to struggle to get home before dark. Which was a shame because those who came clearly enjoyed the experience, as, with the exception of the early departing Nosin, everyone stuck around and enjoyed Only a Yolk's Kao Soi and the good humored circle that followed, and the party only broke up at around 8 p.m.

Ok, so the moral is that everybody (well, almost everybody) has lives outside the hash, but it would be kind of nice if they could be organized so that Saturday late afternoon's and early evenings (and we're only talking about 2 or 3 hours here) could be kept sacrosanct. No one objects if people have to leave early to fulfill social duties but at least try and come along and do the runs to make the hare's efforts worthwhile,

'Nuff said!

Today's HH3 runsite has changed and is now at the top of the road above Wat Prutoh as shown in the map below. Based on the previously published directions, if coming from the Prutoh end of the PT-Tungnai road turn right after 300m immediately before the Or Bor Tor office and then follow the road around the village and up the hill for about 2.3k to the runsite at  7.025286°100.532241°. If you are coming from the Wat Tungnai end of the road, the turning is about 2.9k on the left and is immediately after the Or Bor Tor.

Not the New Yala Road!

For reasons too complex and painful to go into, this Saturday's SH3 runsite has shifted and will now be on that thoughtfully landscaped piece of real estate next to the Sai Kao Resort, immediately opposite last Sunday's HH3 runsite. Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1981, Saturday June 29, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares Egghead and Palm Job
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4.7k and turn left for 6k then turn left at the Tha Kham intersection and go approximately 4.1k. Turn left onto the vacant lot where the hash sign is positioned (unless you are driving a Sherman Tank, in which case you may be able to get up via the first entrance!) Follow the track up to top end of the lot to the run site at 7.042412, 100.609020 or if you prefer, park anywhere off the track after you pass the resort on the right and walk up the rest of the track. From Hatyai, get to Tha Kham and head east for 4.1k etc.

Sunday's HH3 run is a mostly pussy thing, with Sexy Cop, Budokan, Eeyore, Payabahn and possibly others laying the run from the Prutoh-Tungnai Rd. and Grizzly acting as bodyguard. From Poonakan, turn at Wat Tungnai (5k from Wat Keow Kloy on the right, 6k from the other end on the left) and go 2.8k to the runsite on the right at 7.029176° 100.545478°. Alternatively, get to the Nam Noi traffic lights and turn left (from Songkhla - right from Hatyai) and go 3.6 k then turn right at Wat Prutoh and follow the road for 1.4k to the runsite on the left, Too hard to follow? A map will be posted as soon as it arrives!

Before that of course, on Friday evening (June 28, 8:00 p.m.) There is a quiz night, when Little Tool will be filling the dual roles of host and quiz master at Oscar's Bar. Sounds like there could be a bigger turnout than of late with a number of semi-regulars already committing to come along, so do please try and join them.

HH3 today.

For those coming to the HH3 run this afternoon, please be at the runsite before 4:15 as they are intending to start the long run at that time. Guess that means it's going to be a long 'un so we might get our monster on after all!

Thursday, June 20, 2019

The monster at (19)80

Time was when we all used to look forward to the midsummer monster, when Beavershot would go out and set us a run which would take the whole afternoon to do and we'd still get back in time for the circle. Well, it's that run again; but the old monster is not looking his best these days as he struggles with his aging knees/back/ankles etc. So Saturday's SH3 run will be a kinder gentler sort of monster... unless of course anyone fancies a 12k run - it could be arranged!

Either way, the details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1980, Saturday, June 22, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Egghead and doggies
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4.7k and turn left for 10k (2k beyond the traffic lights at Wat Keow Kloy at the junction with Poonakan Rd, heading in the direction of Wat Nern Pijit). Turn left and after 150m take the right fork and follow the road/track for a further 1.3k to the run site on the left at 7.010374° 100.594985°.

Sunday's HH3 run details are as per the map below and the run will be set by Sound Chef, ITUT, Beanie, 48 and the other guy on the right whose name escapes me!

Or if you prefer your directions in English: from the Tha Kham intersection, head east for 4k and turn right opposite the open area next to Sai Kao Resort to the runsite in the rubber at 7.039365° 100.609152°.

Swamp Thing!

This week's SH3 run is being set by that nice Mr Gan Yao, who has cast aside his Big Foot alter-ego for a week and become...da da da daa! Swamp Thing!
Details are (and I quote)
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1979, Saturday June 15, 2019
Time: June sometime, around 16:30
Hare: Gan Yao
Indirections
Start from where you are. From the Koh Yoh intersection (which must be the most commonly used words in the English language, apart from perhaps (following loud slap) ‘stop it!’ and ‘Boris, you’re a dick!!')

From the Koh Yoh intersection take the New Hat Yai road for 9.9 km and turn left at the sign. Follow the track,   bear  right at 0.8 km and  at 1.1 km, park next to Captain Velocity Swamp Thing
©’s Toyota Starship and think….. ‘does this guy know what to do with paper?’ (N07 04.983 E100 30.336)

From Hatyai either take the left turn at the Nam Noi traffic lights on the old road and follow that road for about 5.5 km, all the way to the new Hatyai (lopburiramesuan) road then turn left for 1.7 km then turn left at the hash sign: or take the new road and watch out for the hash sign on the right hand side of the road just after the big klong before the bend leading up to the True Moves Tower, then take a U turn and come back about 850 m and turn left etc.

Sunday's HH3 run was last week allocated to Robocop (i.e., no one else put their hand up when hares were asked for) but no details have yet oozed out. They will be added to this post whenever they do!

The Plain Truth!

Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1978, Saturday June 8, 2019
Hare: Yardstick
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng intersection take the Old Yala Road south for 17.6km (6.9km from the NYR / OYR intersection at Ang Thong), then turn right into the concrete road just before the entrance to the small mosque (between the rubber tyres, as shown in the photo)
Proceed 2.7kms along the concrete road through the village following hash signs, then turn right and proceed for 500m to the runsite.  (7° 00.627'N  100° 38.582'E)
If coming from Hatyai, the preferred option is to proceed along the New Chana Road (Route 43) for 20.6km from the Khlong Wa intersection (overpass), or 7.8km from the Phichit Road junction. Turn left at the SH3 sign for 2.8km along the concrete road, then turn left and proceed for 500m to the runsite. This will avoid everyone going through Chanong village.

Sunday's HH3 run is being set by Jing Reed, Sai Duan and Kai Ping. Directions from Songkhla are to get to Wat Keow Kloy and go down Poonakan Rd for 7.5k then turn left into Bannairai and follow the Bannairai-Kuanjong road for about 2.3k then turn right at the hash sign and follow the road for 300m, then turn left and follow the road for 100m to the run site at 6.983389, 100.519333. From the Kanjanawanit Rd junction with Poonakan, the Bannairai turning is 3.5 k up Poonakan on the right. Map below.

Follow the hares!

Here, for those who stuck to the hares' carefully laid plans for run #1977, is what they would have done on Saturday afternoon, give or take a few odd random walks as the GPS did not actually accompany the hares on the long-run lay for reasons which do not need to be gone into and are in no way related to the  age of the hares, one of whom is not even 50 yet! And most long runners did stick to the trail, which would have taken them about 8.3k to complete or for the short runners, about 5,5k with neither group having to go above 50m at any stage nor in total to ascend more than about 65m.

When not to follow the hares!

But there are times when it is not quite so advisable to follow the hares, particularly if your impression of exactly where they are going is not completely accurate. So when Palm Job wandered back to the runsite a few minutes after departing it sometime around 8 p.m. mumbling incoherently about having followed Egghead into a ditch, lo and behold, Egghead was not actually in the ditch, having sensibly departed via the road which Palm Job had somehow managed to avoid thus coming to grief. But help was on hand in the shape of the remainder of the hash, who, with the assistance of some local help, managed to extricate the Fortuner with minimal damage to the car at least, although apparently Palm Job's wallet took a small hit! Thanks to the unnamed locals, most of whom were apparently from Myanma, Yardstick, Lot Rakaa, Not the Full Shilling, Worm and of course our beloved GM, All Black who oversaw the whole operation and recorded it for posterity, for being on hand to help.

The Gimp sets a run.

This week's SH3 run is being set by our only slightly used Gimp with assistance from our overused On Sec.  Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1977, Saturday, June 1st, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Lot Rakaa and Egghead
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 3.2k and turn left then follow the road for 900m and turn left in front of the gate into Moobahn PSU for 200m then turn right onto the cleared area and look for signs of a runsite over towards the trees at 7.106139° 100.578710°. If coming from Hatyai, go through the traffic lights at Kuan Hin on Kanchanavanit Road and pass the PTT station on the opposite side of the road, then turn right at the first U turn about 350m beyond it and follow the road for 900m etc.

Sunday's HH3 is definitely from Poonakan Soi 10 this week (from the Kanjanavanit/Poonakan junction, Soi 10 is about 3k up on the right, or from Wat Keow Kloy it is a little over 8k on the left shortly after 7-11, runsite at 6.998250° 100.515187°). The hare will be Robocop and the run will be an A-B so don't be late or risk missing the transport!

Before all that, on Friday evening (31st May) don't forget that there is a party at Oscars Bar in Srisuda Road to celebrate Little Tool and Toolbox's birthdays starting at 7:00 p.m. to which all hashers, past, present and future are warmly invited.

A picture is worth a thousand words and a map is even better

Here is the entrance to Saturday's SH3 run site brought to you courtesy of those clever Google people and right at the bottom of this post is a map of where to go on Sunday to get to HH3's run. So what more do you need? A thousand words might be a bit excessive but a few would help, So details of this week's SH3 run are:

Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1976, Saturday , May 25, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: In-u-endo, Not the Full Shilling and Worm
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4.7k and turn left for 8k then right at Wat Keow Kloy into Poonakan for 1.2k and turn left (at the location illustrated) for 500m to the runsite on the left at 7.019139° 100.568958°. From the other end of Poonakan, the turning is 9.8k and is on the right.

Sunday's HH3 run is being set by Kai Jeow, Moo Sahb and Full Moon and is from the football field at Ban Sai Kao: get to the big tree and take the road into the village (on the right if coming from the Tha Kahm direction, or on the left of coming from either Wat Khun Thong or Thung Wang); after 150m go ahead (i.e. don't follow the road round to the right and stay on the concrete road all the way to the football field in about 700m at 7.033209° 100.624643°. At time of writing it would seem sensible to use the concrete pitch as the goal posts have been moved from there onto the grass pitch which may therefore now be in use again. However if parking on the grass pitch is necessary please park on the far side of the pitch, not in the area where the small goal posts have been placed.

A beautiful....

... as of course are all of Yardo's perfectly crafted, well proportioned and exquisitely executed runs!
This one will be no exception!

Details are:

Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1975, Saturday May 18, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hare: Yardstick
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng intersection take the Old Yala Road for 16k (5.3k from the NYR / OYR intersection at Ang Thong) and turn right just before Wat Kuhn Thong. Proceed for 2k along the concrete & bitumen road, then turn left and go 1.2k along the concrete & dirt road to the runsite.
For Hatyai visitors go to the big tree in the middle of the road at Ban Sai Khao, then go straight ahead past the big tree for 1.4k and turn right for 1.2k. Runsite is at:  N7° 01.922' E100° 38.514'. Take care when driving along the narrow concrete road to the runsite, as there are high drop-offs if you run off the concrete.

Sunday's HH3 run will now be from: 7°01'52.4"N 100°35'02.4"E  and the hare will be Sex Printer: From the Tha Kham crossroads head south for about 1.2k and turn left or from Wat Keow Kloy head north for about 700m and turn right. Follow the road for about 600m to the run site on the right. Map below.

SH3 #1974 flyover

Here is a brief "flyover" video of yesterday's short run.

Thursday, May 9, 2019

At a runsite near you....

Voice over: "Egghead? Oh yeah, he's that guy who used to set a lot of runs!"

So this week's SH3 run is the come-back story - the punchy old boxer coming back for just one more fight and surprising everyone by winning the world title, or in our case the old geezer with a lifestyle problem  trying desperately to hold on to his top-hare crown in the face of challenges from the young upstarts.

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1974, Saturday May 11th 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Egghead and Harram
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng intersection, take the old Yala road for 11.8k (1k past the Angthong intersection between the old and new Yala roads) and turn right for 1.5k to the run site on the right on the football field just past Wat Kao Lam at 7.063228° 100.627933°. From Hatyai, get to the Tha Kham intersection and head east for about 6k to the big tree at Sai Kao, then follow the road round to the left for a further 2k to a set of traffic lights. Turn left for 1k then right (will be marked with a sign) and follow the road for 750m to the run site on the left.

Sunday's HH3 run is being set by Jing Reed and Sai Duan and the run site is just off Poonakan road, Ik down from Wat Keow Kloy, on the right, or 10k up from the junction with Kanjanawanit road on the left.

Even more Sticky Little Tool

This week's SH3 run is again being set by Stick Insect and (yawn!) Little Tool, who is undertaking haring duties for the 4th week in a row, thus challenging Not the Full Shilling who seemed to be hell-bent on knocking Egghead of the perch he has occupied for the last 19 years as leading hare. But now along comes Little Tool and totally dominates the hare line! I mean what is it coming to when our regular boring old hares can't even get a chance to lay a run?
Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1973, Saturday May 4, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Stick Insect and Little Tool
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng intersection, take the Old Yala Road for 5.8k. Turn right into Soi 1 (Tanon Laem Deun, which is the first soi past the turning for Wat Chamuthit). Follow the road for 750m. to the runsite on the right. If coming from Hatyai, get to Tha Kham and head east to the old Yala road via the big tree at Sai Kao either by going straight ahead for 3.5k and turning left at Wat Khun Thong or by bearing left at the big tree then driving about 3.7k, reaching the old Yala road through the market at Thung Wang (only feasible on a motorbike!) and turning left then following the old Yala road. The turning off for the runsite is 5.2k north of the Angthong intersection of the New Yala/Old Yala roads, on the left. The coordinates of the runsite are 7.127111°, 100.625056°.

Sunday's run is being set by Robocop and Sex Au Au and is from the quarry down past the big tree near Wat Khun Thong: From the OYR turn right at Wat Khun Thong and go 1k then turn right and follow the track  for about 300m to the runsite at 7.042566°100.646333°, or from Hatyai get to Tha Kham and head east towards the old Yala road passing the big tree at Sai Kao after about 6k then going ahead for another 2.5k and turning left. (Map below)

Finally, don't miss this week's quiz night which takes place on Friday (May 3) at Oscar's Bar where Stick Insect will be the quiz master having stepped in to relieve the overworked Little Tool of the duty. But LT will be our host for the evening and is promising a repeat of March's Cheese platters as refreshments plus the usual reasonably priced mega-bottles of Leo beer. The quiz starts at 8:00 p.m. Be there!

Alternative SH3

If you are going to this weekend's HH3 outstation run in Phattalung, then read no further (well, you can if you want!)

But if you aren't then there is a plan B as SH3 will be organizing a couple of runs for a bunch of visitors from the Royal Klang Club H3 on Saturday and there will therefore be a parallel SH3 run for anyone who wants to join. A couple of points though: the visitors have asked for two runs, a medium and a short by our standards, although the medium run will not be a lot different from one of our more modest long runs.

Secondly, there will be no beer truck but there will be water provided for SH3 runners (our visitors are organizing their own drinks) and also beer on sale at 40 Baht a can, i.e., for this week, no tokens.  That means that anyone needing transport should let the hares know as Little Tool now has a pick-up and will be meeting our guests at the junction of Th. Sadao and Th. Rajadamnoen near the stadium at 3:30 p.m. to guide them to the run site. Finally, the run will start sharp at 4:30 so please do not be late as RKCH3 want to get away early for a dinner date on Ko Yo.

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1972, Saturday, April 27, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Egghead and Little Tool
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the new Hatyai road for about 8.3k and turn left by the True Moves tower then follow the track to the run site in the rubber at  7.102465° 100.517355°. From Hatyai either turn left at the Nam Noi traffic lights on Kanjanawanit Road and go 5.3k then turn right opposite Wat Srisatkiree, or if approaching via Lopburiramesuan Road go about 2k past the Nam Noi turning on the right and do a U turn, then follow hash signs etc. as for Songkhla above.

As far as is known there is no alternative HH3 run on Sunday afternoon so if you ain't kayaking in Phattalung, you have a free Sunday!

Superbob to the rescue

A late case of hare-loss this week, but no problem! Our super-sub Not the Full Shilling with his faithful sidekick Worm have stepped into the breach to set this week's SH3 run alongside the lurch-left Little Tool.
Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1971, Saturday, April 20, 2019, 4:30 p.m.

HH3 outstation run 2109

Hatyai HH3's outstation run this year will take place between Friday 26th and Sunday 28th April and will be at the Wang Wa Dee Resort in Patthalung. If you are not yet registered but would like to attend, can you let HH3 know TODAY (Wednesday, 17th April) or if you don't know how to contact them you can register your interest by adding a comment to this post and I will pass it on.

The cost for all three days including food, beer etc. is 1000 Baht for active runners with kids under 12 yrs, 500 Baht, and returning or new runners 2000 Baht. If you decide to go, could you also indicate if you want to go kayaking on Sunday morning (which is included in the price) or if you will give that a miss!

Early start today!

Just a gentle reminder that today's HH3 run is timed to begin at 3:30 p.m and the run site is at the football field in Poonakan at 7.010429° 100.548627°. HH3 request that we (SH3/HH3) wear a yellow T shirt to aid recognition, so if you have the special T shirt for this run (which is either green or blue) please save it for another occasion! If you have ordered and paid for the T shirt, see Egghead who is holding all those T shirts not already given out. If you  paid your registration  fee on Tuesday then just turn up and act like a hasher. If you haven't registered then see Eeyore as usual and cough up 60 Baht for named runners, and whatever is the amount being demanded for guests!

Finally, thanks to everyone who made the effort and turned out at what was probably our biggest Songkran run ever (123 registered runners). Miraculously despite some confusion about exactly where the beer stops were supposed to be, resulting in some impromptu ones being added, the beer didn't run out until the 7th, located just round the corner from Srisuda Road. The run itself took the best part of 3 hours to complete but no one was complaining and as a result, most of the food at Oscars disappeared quickly and had to be supplemented by that eaten at a rather more leisurely pace at the Hot Bread Shop. Thanks to Kan Kai and Hot Buns, and Toolbox and Little Tool for hosting the lunch and to Only a Yolk and Little Tool for producing enough food to feed a small army. Thanks also to Conebrain and Little Tool (who gets in just about everywhere!) for setting the run and to Yardstick for organizing the beer truck and the water which kept us all in ammo. Does anyone have any photographs?

Follow that pig!

This week's SH3 run which falls on the first day of Songkran is  a town run at which we will be joined by two sizable groups of runners from Malaysia, one from Miri in the eastern bit and one from KL The run site is in Srisuda road in Songkhla in the general area of Oscars/Hot Bread Shop and lunch will be served at both venues immediately after the run finishes, projected to be at about 1 p.m. Could anyone attending please make sure that they wear a hash shirt to aid identification although everybody registering will be given a badge of sorts to help the staff in the bars and the helpers on the beer truck recognize genuine hashers

Registration for everyone other than the two groups of visitors (who will have already paid) will take place from 10 a.m. at the front of Oscar Bar where there will also be water available before the run. On the run there will be a number of beer stops at which there will be free beer, soft drinks and water, both to drink and also to fill up your water guns. However this will all be strictly for registered runners so if you don't register there's no beer and no food afterwards! Finally, again for registered runners only the two bars have agreed to sell selected beers at 60 Baht a can/bottle so please stay around long enough to give them a bit of custom as a thank you for hosting the lunch for us.
Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1970, Saturday, April 13, 2019, 11:00 a.m.
Hares: Conebrain and Little Tool
Misdirections: Srisuda Road may not be directly accessible to road traffic so park in the general area  and walk to 7.204374° 100.592431°.
Registration: Named and local SH3 and HH3 runners:100 Baht. New runners and guests: 400 Baht.

HH3's run on Sunday will also be graced by our Malaysian friends from Saturday and will feature long, medium and short runs to suit all tastes. The hares are too numerous to mention but the run site is at 7.010429° 100.548627° alias the football field at Tungnai on Thanon Poonakan. If you haven't already booked a T shirt then it is probably too late to do so now. If you have ordered one then contact Egghead as he almost certainly has it! However, HH3 have asked all local runners if possible to wear a yellow (hash) T shirt to aid recognition and eligibility for whatever they have planned.  Named HH3 (and apparently SH3) runners 60 Baht,  new  and non-named runners subject to negotiation! The run starts at 3:30 p.m. so please be there a bit early or risk setting off late and having to be rescued.

Harmonious hares

This week's SH3 run is being harmoniously set by Yardstick and Kii Leum, for both of whom there seems to be some possibility that this Saturday may be their last proper run for a while as both have imminent plans to depart for more rewarding shores in the next couple of weeks.
Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run # 1969, Saturday, April 6, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares:Yardstick and Kii Leum
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4.7k and turn left for 6k then turn left at the Tha Kham crossroads for about 4.2k and turn right into the rubber opposite the big vacant moonscape on the left at 7.039614,100.609073. Alternative routes via the old Yala road are available and from the big tree the run site is 1.8k on the left heading in the direction of Tha Kham. From Hatyai get to Tha Kham and head east for 4.2k etc.
Scant tidings of the HH3 run on Sunday but they will be appropriately added when they emerge. But don't forget that next weekend will be Songkran and the SH3 run will be a town run starting at 11:00 a.m. with lots of beer on the run and lunch to follow. As usual we have a big crowd of visitors from Malaysia joining us and they will also be at next Sunday's HH3 run of which more details next week.

Beaver was 'ere!

Here courtesy of Google Street view is the turn off to Saturday's run site which for those capable of navigating to these things is at 7.046036,100.532365 (normal directions below).
But hold on a second! What is that strange object adorning the tree in front of the turning? Surely it can't be!
But yes, it is, it's an SH3 sign! And not just any old sign but one of Beavershot's do-it-yourself plastic jobbies. So bearing in mind that all hash information is now publicly available either on the SH3 One-Drive page (here) or through the back pages of the Online Scum and that there is a teensie weensie bit of information available elsewhere, which might help, it ought to be possible to work out what run this sign was indicating.

Now coincidentally Beavershot is likely to be joining us this weekend and it just so happens that he kind of owes your humble On Sec a quantity of beer relating to a previous challenge issued concerning the identity of his latest love interest. So assuming that he honors that debt, the beer owed will be given to the first person able to identify both the date and run number at which the Google Street View camera captured the SH3 sign in flagrante (and if he reneges on the deal there will be an alternative beery prize!) And just to make sure you do your homework, how many lays had Beavershot completed after the run and how long (approximately) was the long run? Obviously, Beavershot is not eligible as a Beaver never forgets and he will be able to confirm that the correct answer is, well, correct! Answers please as either a comment to this post on the Online Scum or as a post on the SH3 thread on Facebook messenger,

Misdirections to the SH3 run are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1968, Saturday March 30, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Not the Full Shilling, Worm and Lot Rakaa
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection, take the old Hatyai road for 10k and turn left at the Nam Noi traffic lights for 2k then turn right and follow the concrete road for about 1.5k to the run site on the right. For Hatyai based runners, take Kanjanawanit road to the Nam Noi traffic lights and turn right for 2k, etc.
HH3's run on Sunday is being set by Robocop, and details if its whereabouts will be posted when available. Meanwhile on Friday evening (March 29, 2019), there is a quiz night at Oscar Bar, where mein hosts Pui and Mark (alias Little Tool and Tool Box) will be providing cheese platters, and Egghead will be asking the questions. It should start around 8:00 p.m. and when it is all over there should be some live music at the Hot Bread Shop which is just a hop, skip and a jump away!

Relive last night's FMH3 run

The long run looked something like this ...

https://www.relive.cc/view/g31905446477
...or this (short run in green, long run extension in red). Thanks to everyone who turned out, conquered the dubious underfoot conditions without the aid of a sweeper and then made it a great evening!

Usual stuff applies: bring a head/hand light if you intend to do the short or long runs and contributions of food to share afterwards as well as beer are always appreciated, although full moon special brew will be on sale at 40 Baht a can. Dogs are welcome but will need to be kept on a leash at Egg Towers to avoid accidents with lesser animals and also during some parts of the run which go close to predominantly Muslim areas.

A florin of runs!

The two Bobs are setting this weeks runs, with the assistance of some other loose change, some of which is more attached than others. SH3's details for Saturday are:

Go 3.6k to Wat Pru Toh and turn right for 750m and turn left for 1k then right and follow the track to the run site on the right at  7.033485° 100.552190°. From Hatyai, the turning at the traffic lights is to the right. Alternatively from Poonakan take the turning opposite Wat Tungnai for about 2.5k and turn right, for 1k etc.

Finally, a heads up that The first day of Songkran (13th April) falls on a Saturday this year and it looks as if we will be joined that day by some friends from KL so the run will be in the morning and will be a town run. More news as plans develop but the format will be the usual mayhem punctuated by beer from the beer truck, followed by food back in Sisuda road. Put it in your diary!

Shifting site

The hares advise that today's SH3 runsite is now on the vacant lot on the left side of the road (not the right as building work has commenced there). In case of parking overflow, there is another vacant lot about 30 meters beyond the actual runsite. Signs will be put up at about 3:15 p.m. but the run site will be marked with shreddy prior to that.

More Sticky Little Tool

Timber!

This week's recce was conducted to the accompaniment of the call of the lesser spotted chainsaw (Treeus downii) and there was also much evidence of the work of the greater excavator (Diggus upii). Whether the changes wrought by these two increasingly familiar visitors to our countryside are positive or not, we leave to you to decide, but they provided at least one spectacular view (above) and will make it a great deal easier for our short runners (Athleticus challengii) to share some of the more interesting bits of Saturday's run, details of which are:

Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1964, Saturday, March 2, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Egghead and Eightball
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng intersection take the old Yala road for 16k and turn right at Wat Khun Thong for 3.5k then turn left immediately after the big tree. (If coming from Hatyai get to Tha Kham and head east for 5k then turn right just before the big tree). After 150m bear right and follow signs through the village for 850m to a T junction and turn left for 200m then turn right and follow the road/track for 1.1k. The run site is now on the right at 7.024685°N 100.619107°E (not left as in previous visits to this area).

Sunday's HH3 run is being set by the Beanie family and details of it's whereabouts will be added later when available.

Enter Hash Nerd

Surprised 😱 to learn of his [non] voluntary 🙋 appointment 📆, this Tool 🔨 is spending another day at home recovering from food poisoning 😵💩 and trying to be productive 👓 by dusting off what he thinks looks like a computer 💻 to take on this arduous task of "blogging" 📢. He might need a few tips to get started, such as how to turn on this computer's Bluetooth 📶 to connect his Garmin tracker ⌚. So, what can we expect from this newbie Hash Nerd #🤓? Probably just a load of third person ⅓👱 diarrhea 💩💩 interspersed with pointless emoji 😜. Stay tuned 📡 ...
