HH3 tomorrow

In keeping with tradition, here is the map for the HH3 run tomorrow just in time to confuse the hell out of anyone checking in on TOS for directions today. So let's just stress this again: These are the directions for the Sunday HH3 run of 28th July. If you want the directions to today's SH3 run then scroll down!
From the Old Hatyai road 4.7k left turning go 14k through Tha Kham, past Wat Keow Kloy and onwards to Wat Nern Pijit, then stay on the road  until it hits route 43. Go (carefully!) across route 43 and in 300m, after crossing the railway, bear left at the first hash sign and after about 1k, turn right at the second sign. The run site is on the right. Hares are Beanie, Syntax Error and Ee Geng Bang

Where the excavators play

Progress marches on, or in Songkhla's case it crawls along on caterpillar tracks. Yes, our old friends the excavators have been out in the countryside around Napong where this week's SH3 run takes place, so some new trails have appeared and some old ones have been subsumed in the process. But the run will take in some varied terrain, explore some old run sites, and maybe even go where no run has gone before.

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1985, Saturday, July 27, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares Egghead and Harram
Misdirections. From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4k and turn left at the Kuan Hin traffic lights. Go 5.2k and turn left opposite the temple arch at Wat Borogam for 500m to the runsite on the right opposite the big sala at 7.074643°N 100.606273°E. Click here for Google Maps location. From Hatyai, the Kuan Hin lights are 6k beyond the Nam Noi traffic lights and the turning is on the right. (Alternative routes via Tha Kham available on request. Just leave a comment below.)

Sunday's HH3 run is being set by ITUT and is being advertised as a one-run-suits-all affair. The general location seems to be somewhere in the vicinity of Route 43/Na Mom but more details will be posted here when available.

And for our next number....

This weeks' SH3 run is a little bit further up the OYR than Yardo has been taking us of late, not only to access some new country but also to avoid the drive through the village which can be a bit tricky, particularly after the run.

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1984, Saturday July 20, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Yardstick and All Black
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng intersection take the Old Yala Road south for 19.0km (9.7km from the NYR / OYR intersection at Ang Thong) and turn right. Go 1.6kms, going straight ahead at the ‘T’ junction, to the runsite. Runsite co-ordinates are N7.003° E100.658°. Click here for link to Google Maps.
If coming from Hatyai, take the New Chana Road for 24.0kms from the overpass on the Kanchanwanit Road at Khlong Wa intersection, or 11.2kms from the Phichit Road junction. Turn left at the traffic lights, then left again after 700m onto the Old Yala Road. From the junction with the OYR go 2.2kms north before turning left, then go 1.6kms straight on to the runsite.

HH3's details for Sunday are still awaited and will be posted later. Meanwhile don't forget the Oscar Bar 5th anniversary party on Friday (July 19th) 19:00 - 02:00 Details below.
Join the celebrations on Friday night as Oscars turns 5 years old. Live music will feature the acoustic guitar and vocals of George Edward from London. There will be complementary food including Thai food by Pui and Mark's famous Gumbo. We look forward to seeing you all here

Full mooning

This month's full moon run will happen on Tuesday this week. Details below:

Hatyai Full Moon Hash House Harriers' run #146, Tuesday, July 16, 2019, 7:00 p.m.
Hare: Kai Jeow
Misdirections: From Songkhla get to the big tree and head west towards Tha Kham for about 1k then turn right under the temple arch;  After 600m bear left and follow the road heading for Phu Kao Long for 1k to the runsite on the right at 7.050051° 100.613587°. From Hatyai, get to Tha Kham and head east towards the big tree for about 5k then turn left under the temple arch etc.

Usual stuff applies: bring a head or hand light if you are intending to do either the long or short runs, and some food to share if you think you will be hungry after the run. Beer (Leo) will be on sale at 40 Baht a can but if you prefer to bring your own beer to share with your mates, that's ok.

Up memory Lane

Here is what yesterday's SH3 runs (short in green, long in red + green) look like on Google Earth - sadly no action-packed Relive version is available as Little Tool, who provides these things was the sole occupant of the run site during the run, opting to nurse some injuries as he finalized the preparation of the wonderful food that followed the pack's returns.

But otherwise, everybody did some sort of run with all but All Black and Peppered Pussy attempting the second hill crossing, or in the case of the short run the only hill crossing, at the top of which the errant Gan Yao was discovered having taken another route up the hill from the wrong side. The long run weighed in at 8.4k all up reducing to 7.3k without the F's and X's while the 'short' run topped 6k, or about 5.1k for those who avoided them. The total ascent for the long run was about 280m, while that for the short run was about 160m. Full marks to Nok Air, Lowbat and Tee for persevering with the second hill on the long run despite getting delayed before the beer stop, but still managing to get back to the run site before dark, and to everybody for getting down the jungle section of the descent without injury, the only casualty being a lost handphone, retrieved and returned to its owner by Chao Ngor.

Memory Lane

Here's a rather antiquated view of the entrance to Saturday's SH3 runsite neatly edited to hide the fact that the Street View image still shows the new Yala road as a two-lane road without a central divide. That has all changed of course and the NYR is now firmly divided although for anyone approaching from the southern direction, there is a U turn about 100m before the turning... just saying. Otherwise the closest U turn is about 1.4k beyond the turning into the runsite.
Full details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1983, Saturday July 13, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Egghead and Harram
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the new Yala road for 4.2k and turn left at  7.100799°N 100.597290°E. After 30m, take the rough track going straight ahead (i.e., don't follow the main track to the left) for about 150m to the run site. From Hatyai, get to the Ko Yo Intersection via either the new or old road then go under the overpass and take the first U turn  just after Bangkok Bank then come back to the turning into the NYR. Alternatively, on the old road, take the right turn at the Kuan Hin traffic lights just before the PTT station and after 4k go straight ahead as the road bends to the right. Follow the road for a further 1.5 k until it hits the NYR and turn left. The runsite entrance is about 2k down on the opposite side of the road - your choice of which U turn to use!

No tidings yet of the HH3 run this Sunday or of a possible full moon run next week. With the full moon actually falling on Wednesday (17th July) the second of two consecutive holidays so maybe Tuesday, 16th would be a good idea? Kai Jeow is standing by to be the hare! Watch this space!

The Hatyai H3 directions for Sunday seem to again involve the Tungnai-Prutoh road: From Poonakan, turn at Wat Tungnai (5k from Wat Keow Kloy on the right, 6k from the other end on the left) and go 2.8k to the runsite on the right at 7.029176° N 100.545478°E. Alternatively, get to the Nam Noi traffic lights and turn left (from Songkhla - right from Hatyai) and go 3.6 k then turn right at Wat Prutoh and follow the road for 1.4k to the runsite on the left. The Hares are Beanie, Sound Chef, 48 and Mrs Bean. Map below.

On-on Paak Maa

Sad news reaches us of Cat a.k.a. Paak Maa. After many years of retirement from the hash she finally lost her battle to outlive her owner, Stick Insect. So no doubt she's now in that big endless doggy trail in the sky frolicking with other great historical hash dogs like Chicken Killer and Fufu. Or more likely, snarling at them. We miss you, Cat.

New runners? (Now with corrected coordinates and map for HH3)

Saturday's hares have spent some time explaining to the locals what they were doing wandering apparently aimlessly in their countryside this week, and some have expressed interest in joining us this weekend, particularly this group, who seemed to think that the conditions might suit their temperament.

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1982, Saturday, July 6, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Wi Wi and Eightball.
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the New Hatyai Road for 8.2k and turn left (just after the True Moves tower) for 3.6k then turn right for around 2k to the run site at N07.04.086 (or 07.081) E100.30.638. (or 100.51063)
From Hatyai (or from Songkhla via the old Hatyai road): get to the Namnoi traffic lights and turn left (right, if coming from Songkhla) for 1.7k and turn left for about 2.0k to the run site.
Doggie directions: The hares advise that there may be a couple of road crossings involved in the run so it would be a good idea if you are intending to bring one or more doggies to make sure that you equip yourself with leads to get them across safely.

Sunday's HH3 run is from the big sala behind the CP factory: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 6.5k and do a U turn then come back 100m and turn left for about 1k to the runsite on the right behind the community center. From Hatyai, look out for earlier alternative left turns off the OHR which may be signed and then follow your instincts! The hares are ITUT and friends. Map to follow when available below!.
