The run they didn't want you to do.

..."they" as in the forces of international evil conspiring to take away YOUR personal liberty and bring in the new global NANNY STATE. Well they failed today, huh? Run 1871, formerly know as run 1868, was  8.6k according to Mr. Garmin hand-held, but sensible old Mrs. Garmin on the pc lopped a full kilometer off that, so with the 7 F's and single X the long run was probably only a shade over 6k. Felt longer? well, that would have been the 350m total ascent kicking in and the maximum height reached (at the 4th 360) of 285m taking its toll. The short run was about 3.5k and featured some rugged sections inspired by Mr. Garmin who successfully enabled the two runs to link up despite being separated by 100m of impenetrable shiggy, as well as some great walking trails and a couple of waterfalls to boot. Both runs benefited from the beer stop which gave the hares a good excuse for not sweeping, for which Harram (that sad old decrepit dog) was particularly grateful, having been dragged round 2 recces, the long run lay and the short run lay as well. I think she deserves 2 hare credits for that! The short run ate it in about 25 minutes to the beer stop, The long run took their time and were there in about an hour longer. Sad, old and decrepit?

While the Beaver's away the groundhogs will play

Has he gone yet?
Ok, so this week's hare is going to make another attempt at stealing Beaver's run site etc, which last time resulted in him being struck down with some awful disease possibly as a result of Beaver employing an Indonesian witch doctor to put a hex on him. But Beaver's in Bangkok this weekend and there are no witch doctors up there, are there? (Don't answer that!) So all being well, the details of this week's SH3 run are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1871, Saturday, April 29, 2017, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Egghead and Harram
Misdirections: Take the Old Hatyai Road for 4.7 km and turn left. Proceed about 10.3 km (i.e. 2.3 km past Wat Khao Kloi) and turn left again. Bear right after 150m and carry on about 2km to the runsite, From Hatyai take Poonakan Rd. from it's junction with Kanjanawanich road for 11 km to Wat Khao Kloi then turn right and go 2.3k, then turn left etc. Coordinates are: 7°0'50.00"N 100°36'18.44"E.

Sunday's (30th April 2017) HH3 run site is  just past Rong Rien Tungnai off of Poonakan Road: From Wat Keow Kloy go about 6k and look for the sign on the right and turn into the road. Follow the road past RR Tungnai for about 500m then at a sharp right hand turn in the road, take the track straight ahead or slightly left through the rubber for a further 300m or so to the run site at the top of the building site. From Hatyai the turning is 5k from the junction with Kanjanawanit Rd. and is on the left. The hare is Robocop.

Sound familiar? Well it should do because it's the same as last week, when Robocop set, let's be charitable, an abomination; a blot on the good name of hashing; a load of old codswallop. So in the spirit of Groundhog Day, this week he gets the chance to go back and do it all again and get it right this time! And just as an added attraction, there will be a camp-out after the run for those who don't have to work the following day or get up to get their kids off to the first day of the new school year. So if yer into camping then bring yer tent!

Finally, this Friday (28th April) is quiz night at the Office Bar and a chastened SH3 team who slumped to third place last month, will be attempting to come back from the brain-dead. The quiz master is big Alex and the quiz kicks off at 8:00 p.m.

Yesterday’s SH3 run looked like it was turning out to be a washout with a rather small turnout by the Songkhla crowd. Thankfully Hatyai runners turned up in force (how many Egghead?), but due to other commitments (party?) the HH3 contingent had to leave early, immediately after the run. A hard decision had to be made by the hare, between having a beerstop or sweeping (nanny-haring) the run. In the end the beerstop had to go, and even then it took the long runners one and a half hours to return to the runsite, with a relatively short track of less than 6km, without the F’s and 360’s.
Details are:  Long run:  6.9km (inc. all the false trails and checks); total ascent 400m; max height 217m;  8 x 360s, 6 x false trails, 2 x check-backs, although the 2nd 'X' was not found.
Short run:  3.3km;  total ascent 150m; max height 205m.;  2 x 360s, 1 x false trail.

Back to normal

This weekend, SH3 should be back to normal with our beloved GM already on her way home and our Ubonettes back in the fold. Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run#1870, Saturday 22nd April 2017, 4:30 p.m.
Hare: Yardstick
Misdirections: From the Khao Seng intersection take the Old Yala Road for 16km (5.3km from the NYR / OYR intersection at Ang Thong) and turn right just before Wat Kuhn Thong. Proceed along the concrete & bitumen road for 2.7km, turn left and go 1.6km (bearing right) to the runsite amongst the rubber trees. Runsite co-ordinates are:  7° 1'40.06"N  100°38'3.01"E
For Hatyai visitors, go to the big tree in the middle of the road at Ban Sai Khao, then go straight ahead past the big tree for 800m and turn right for 1.6km.
Hatyai H3's details for Sunday will be posted later when they are announced.

This weekend's runs, kind of

OK, so here's Saturday's SH3 run, set by Innuendo. I think enough of us went around it and seemed to enjoy it that we restored his fragile ego . . . KNOB, YOU ARE A GOD! Probably about 95% accurate.

And then here's today's Hatyai run, except that after the first 4km or so I decided I could improvise a better way of my own than the tortuous "trail" that Modify had bashed out through the crap. So the last 1km or so before the beer stop and then the way home from there are not as the hare laid it, and I am not in the least repentant. Even the beer can is inaccurate, as the only adult drink offered at the beer stop was Boon Rawd's dreadful new "U" beer. Not that we ever complain about a beer stop.

Songkran HH3 Run

Confidential intelligence reports from Capetown & Ubon Ratchathani confirm that Sunday’s hash run, on Sunday, will be at the Thung Nai football ground. All other intelligence in the Songkhla / Hatyai area appears to have been corrupted and is now considered to be suspect, if not totally absent. Unmasked hares have been identified as Modify and Sex Racing.
Misdirections:  From Songkhla, take the Old Hatyai Road for 4.7km past the Ko Yor intersection, turn left and go 7.8km, then turn right at Wat Khao Kloi onto Poonakan Road for 4.0km. The runsite is on the football ground on the left through the grass.
If coming from Hatyai, take Poonakan Road for 6.8km from the T-junction with Kanchanavanit Road at PSU. The runsite is on the right into the football ground, about 1.0km past Wat Thung Ngai.

Innuendo's Great Escape

The run this week will be on the hills between the new and the old Hatyai roads, near the big mosque. Inuuendo will be setting the run and I’m sure he’s really hoping to get more than a couple of runners, so if you haven’t gone to Ubon or tried to escape to another destination to avoid any Songkran activities, please come along to help bolster Innuendo’s ego. We promise, sort of, that there won’t be any water throwing.

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1869, Saturday, April 15, 2017, 4:30 p.m.
Hares:  In-nuendo
Misdirections:
From the Ko Yor intersection take the new Hadyai bypass road approx 8.5km (just past the telecom towers). Turn left at the hash sign and go approx 1km to the H3 sign on the left (beside the sala). Turn left and go approx 500m along the concrete then dirt road to the runsite on the right.
If coming from Hadyai, take the old Hadyai road to Nam Noi traffic lights, turn left and go approx 4.5km to the sign (beside the sala) and turn right, etc.

Another change of runsite

A second change of runsite has now been required for SH3 due to the hare now having succumbed to an ailment which is confining him to bed. Actually I’m sure it’s a curse put on him by that evil Beaver to prevent him using “his” runsite.
Thankfully Sex Sprinter has kindly stepped in and has offered to set the run in his stead. The Saturday SH3 runsite for the 8th April 2017 will now be at the big sala behind Wat Hin Kliang, at the big tree amongst the rice paddies.
Misdirections:  From Ko Yor intersection take the Old Hatyai Road for 4.7kms, turn left for 6.0kms. At the Tha Kham intersection turn left for 1.8kms, then turn right for 300m to the sala.
From Hat Yai, take Poonakan Road from the Kanchanavanich turn-off for 11km to Wat Khao Kloi. Turn left for 1.7km to the Tha Kam intersection and turn right for 1.8kms and follow above directions to the sala.

A change of runsite

This week was intended to be our annual outing to the Eastside (of the old Yala road) but we seem to have rather missed the boat on that one, or to be more specific we would have needed the boat to get to the runsite, as that bit of country has succumbed to this week's deluge and is now largely underwater.

So, since Beaver has gone to ground in his lodge this weekend to avoid any possibility of having any fun at Songkran, this week's hares have decided to steal borrow his favorite run site and while we're at it to pay him the compliment of incorporating some of his old runs in this week's run as well as recycling his last set of misdirections. And just to rub further salt into the wound, the hares will include, in fact will be honored by the presence of Harram ('that sniveling little bitch', to you, Beaver) who will thus move ever so slightly closer to her 100th lay. Woof! Woof!

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1868, Saturday, April 8, 2017, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Egghead and Harram
Misdirections: Take the Old Hatyai Road for 4.7 km and turn left. Proceed about 10.3 km (i.e. 2.3 km past Wat Khao Kloi) and turn left again. Bear right after 150m and carry on about 2km to the runsite, From Hatyai take Poonakan Rd.from it's junction with Kanjanawanich road for 11 km to Wat Khao Kloi then turn right and go 2.3k, then turn left etc. Coordinates are: 7°0'50.00"N 100°36'18.44"E.

Usual stuff from the hares: lots of runny trails on the long run including some "new stuff"; gorgeous countryside and memorable views, a couple of waterfalls and a short run which will satisfy while not causing discomfort. Oh, ok, and a beer stop as well.

Sunday's HH3 run is being set by Sex Printer and perhaps one or two others. The runsite is on the Tungnai turning off Poonakan beyond the road leading to the Kuan Samroot Maditation Center:
From Wat Khao Kloi take Poonakan for 5.5k and turn left, then go about 2k to the run site on the right. From the other end of Poonakan also go 5.5k but turn right.

Unseasonably wet beaver

Long run in blue, short in yellow. I admire those hares, like Egghead and Yardstick, who can keep track of all their false trails, checks, and checkbacks and put them on their trail records. I just can't seem to get organized enough to do it myself. But at last I've managed a beer can.
Well I guess someone has to set the first cold wet run of the year and this year it was my turn. The long run featured ten 360s but no false trails and only one checkback, at the very end. It measured just over 6km in length with total ascent of just 210m and a high point of 172m. Most of the hounds devoured the first 4.5km, to the beer stop, in no more than 45 minutes. Short run was almost exactly 4km, total ascent a bit over 100m. Circle called off on account of the drizzle and chill, not that it stopped us from attempting to drink the beer truck dry.
