Would you buy a used cup of coffee from this man?

Our hare this week is the ever surprising Kii Leum seen at the link above in his former incarnation as matinée idol, relaxing with a cup of coffee. But why is he wearing gum boots? Actually after the inundation suffered by the full moon run on Wednesday, it doesn’t seem like such a bad idea!
Anyway, details of this week's run are:
SH3 run #1643, Saturday, December 1st 2012, 4:00 p.m.
Hare: Kii Leum
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4k and turn left for about 6.5k to the run site on the left. (Or be at our new home: The Bai Meang Restaurant in Thanon Sadao by 3:00 p.m. to catch a ride on the beer truck).

Sunday’s HH3 run is near Ban Nai Rai. Directions for Songkhla are: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4.7k and turn left for 8k, then right at Wat Keow Kloy for about 9k then look for a sign on the left. Hares are reputed to be Tsunami, Damage and possibly Sexy Cook. Map below for the spatially challenged.

Full moon ramwong

The water overflows the banks on the full moon of the twelfth month.
All men and women,  have fun on Loi Krathong day.
After we finish launching krathongs I would like to invite you, my dear, to dance the ramwong and the merit we have made on this day will bring us happiness.

Aaaahhh, Isn't that sweet?
OK, OK. so back to reality. It's just a full moon like any other so that means Full Moon Hash, which in honor of the occasion will be held at the water tower at Napong adjacent to the reservoir that goes nowhere on which we can launch our krathongs and if we drink enough beer, dance the ramwong, although that might be difficult in the water.
Official misdirections are:

Hatyai Full Moon Hash House Harriers run #92, Wednesday, November 28th 2012, 7:00 p.m.
From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4k and turn left for 6k then left for about 300m.
The hare is Sex Sprinter and, I venture to predict, Toy Boy.
Usual stuff applies. A handlight is a very good idea if you intend to venture out of the run site either to run or to launch a krathong. Contributions of food always welcome. Beer on sale at 3 for 100 Baht. SH3 may chip in some wine if the committee members present are of a mind.

Transport from Songkhla available from AUA at about 6:00 p.m. but transport back will be by arrangement!

1642: Chicken Killer is dead; long live Chicken Killer!

Previously distinguished only by his unerring ability to select only the finest hashers legs as pissing posts, "Sawad" proved himself to be of a finer mettle last week by unceremoniously dispatching a nasty feathered thingy during the recce for last Saturday's excellent run, thus suggesting himself as a worthy successor to the late and greatly lamented "Daeng" a.k.a. Chicken Killer. Sadly his performance and a later incident involving a duck (well, we all have our weaknesses where the birds are concerned) prevented him putting in an appearance at the run itself, but rumor has it that he not only did he complete the long run on Sunday, but was also involved in an attempted disemboweling of Mi and possibly also in an attempted illegal congress with an elephant.
Be that as it may, Saturday's virgin lay which also involved Perky and Mucky Pup with R2D2 as general guide and GPS wielder was a great success - in the sense that it allowed Sex Sprinter and Egghead to short cut the bit where the hares got lost including the last 2 F's and to romp in 10 minutes before anyone else in about 1 hour 15 mins. Below is the hares track, suggesting an all in distance in excess of 8k which probably reduced to around 7k without the F's and X's and a maximum altitude of 197m.

Perky's virgin lay

For those who wonder why we named our precious new runners Pinky and Perky, here is the evidence: the UK's answer to the chipmunks, who specialised in the same distorted voice renditions of old favorites and starred in their own TV show sometime around 1960. Let's hope that our Pinky and Perky stick around longer than their porcine alter egos.
This week, Perky will be laying his first run along with Mucky Pup, under the gentle but firm guidance of R2D2.
Full details are:
SH3 run #1642, Saturday, November 24th, 4:00 p.m.
Hares: R2D2, Perky and Mucky Pup
Misdirections: From the Kao Saeng intersection take the old Yala road for 17k and turn right after Tan Kwai School, for 500 meters then turn right into the run site in the quarry.

Sunday's HH3 run map below. The run site is on the left,  about 1k past the Nam Noi traffic lights on the old Hatyai road, about 11k from the Ko Yo intersection. The run starts at or soon after 4:00 p.m.

Our stuff finds a home

Ever since the demise of the fondly remembered Parlang Bar some years ago, our Hash Stuff (ice boxes, signs, whiteboard etc.) has wandered around town like a drunken off-duty rigger. But now, with any luck, we seem to have found another good home for it, and -- more importantly -- a strategic point for the departure of the Beer Truck every Saturday afternoon.* It's the Bai Meang Vietnamese restaurant/beer garden on Sadao Rd., more or less across from the Governor's House.

The above photo shows the attractive gated cubicle where you'll find everything you need to become an award-winning SH3 hare. Or, if you're not that ambitious, at least check the whiteboard where you may even find misdirections to the next run. And while you're there, be sure to order up some of the rather excellent food and the cheap cold beer. We're delighted to have Bai Meang help sponsor our hash, and we'll try to reward them with our business.

*You do know that we offer FREE TRANSPORT to every run at 3 pm. (3:30 pm. in the non-cool season) on Saturday? Just show up, maybe help Bung toss a few slabs of beer into the eskie, and then enjoy the ride out to another unforgettable run, or walk, or whatever you want to do.

Run 1641

Ok, so no prizes for originality, and if you've run even sporadically at SH3 you've probably done a run very much like this one before. But this time out the lumberjacks and their elephant had been busy and cleared a couple of new patches, and the long run descent/middle of the short run was different. The short run, for those who persevered to the U turn, got up to 170 meters and the long run, just shy of 200 with a total ascent of 220 meters, so not too demanding, nor was the overall length of 5k, give or take a false trail or two. And all the checks, of which there were only seven, were in the first half of the run so plenty of running for the fit of which Sex Sprinter was first home in exactly an hour.

Trust me, I have a map

Details of HH3's run on Sunday (18th November: 4:00 p.m.) as promised. Vaseline has opted out of haring in view of his duties as beer truck driver, so the current and past GM's have stepped into the breach. Directions from Songkhla are:
From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4.7k and turn left for 8k then right (at Wat Keow Kloy) for 5k'ish then turn left just before the left turn before Wat Tung Ngai and follow the track to the run site.

Last appeal for a half decent turn out at SH3 tomorrow: Pleaeaeaeaeaease come along and support the hares! Run site, just to repeat, is in the NEW Yala road at 3.5k from the Ko Yo intersection.

Trust me - I have a compass!

Fresh from his triumph last Sunday, when he managed to hijack half of HH3 (mostly female it must be said!) based on flashing his compass and pretending it was a GPS, before leading them backwards down the short run then off for a second circuit of the long run, Kii Leum is in partial control of this week's SH3 run which for reasons too complex to go into, will now be:

Songkhla Hash House Harriers run #1641, Saturday November 17th, 2012, 4:00 p.m.
Hares: Kii Leum and Egghead
Misdirections: from the Ko Yo intersection take the NEW Yala road for 3.5k to the runsite on the left.

Saints preserve us! This is the week that a lot of SH3 regulars seem to have chosen to go off on holday, so if you are in Songkhla this weekend, please try to come along and support the hares who have spent untold hours designing, recce'ing, tweaking and perfecting this run for your complete enjoyment (and won't just be going out to lay it on Saturday morning- honest!).

Sunday's HH3 run in contrast will be completely under the control of Vaseline, who we have mostly forgotten used to be known as KY, and had strange penchants to lay runs using black paper or pieces of old linoleum. Details of its whereabouts are not currently available but will definitely be made known promptly as soon as they arrive.

Another weekend, another birthday

Kitty by Kelly: How does she get her to look so angelic!
For the third weekend in a row, there's a birthday to celebrate this week , because with 11/11 falling on Sunday, Full Moon, a.k.a. Peppered Pussy will be celebrating her 11th birthday with an HH3 run from Egg Towers followed by a party.

Before that, Saturday's SH3 run will be:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers run #1640, Saturday 10th November, 2012, 4:00 p.m.
Hares Sex Sprinter and Buk Toy
Misdirections:
From the Ko Yo intersection, take the old Hatyai road for 6k and turn right after the CP factory; then follow the road for about 1k to the community center on the right (Danny: we really mean it this week!)

Sunday's official details are:
From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4k and turn left (at the Kuan Hin traffic lights). Follow the road for 5.2k (bear right after 3.5k where a road goes straight ahead) then turn right through the temple arch at Bologam. Follow signs etc. to the run site.

1639: Ho hum, another wonderful run.

To judge by the muted response to last Saturday's run, which though they may be just a teensie bit biased, the hares felt was fairly wonderful, the assembled hashers from SH3, Batu Pahat Full Moon H3 and a liberal smattering of HH3 must clearly be suffering from a surfeit of good runs. Happily that dangerous situation was well and truly combatted the following day, when no doubt the HH3 run was received with rapturous approval. There's no accounting for taste!
But once again, an influx of hashers from across the border swelled our numbers to healthy proportions and both the long and short run packs were in the 20-30 range, with the short run taking marginally longer than the 1.03 clocked by long run front runner Sex Sprinter who was widely suspected of having undertaken some creative track avoidance in the downhill half of the run. Post-run analysis suggested check-free lengths of 6.3k and 3.6k respectively for the long and short runs, with the long run reaching 260 meters at the 4th 360, the short run about 150m at the point it rejoined the long run and the total ascent being around 280m. Some great views on both runs which failed signally to inspire positive comment and went unrecorded as Only a Yolk forgot to take the camera.
Ho hum...

The answer to all our problems . . . beer!

Spirulina is the nice name for cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae, pond scum etc. . . . the remarkable substance that promises a new renaissance for Songhkla Hash!

Yes, while exploring the wilds (not really -- it's all highways and shopping malls like everywhere else) of northern Burma, I came upon this remarkable product: Spirulina Anti-Aging Beer. Think of it: not only will this restore our vitality and speed, but it will attract more women to the hash, because they want to be young even more than we do!

Now it is unclear whether "anti-aging" means it simply stops the aging process or actually reverses it. If the former, it's really kind of too late for some of us. If the latter, well, Egghead may not need that plastic surgery after all! In any case, the more we drink, the more good it's going to do us. Sort of like ordinary beer but even more so!

It's all clear now!

Just as it seemed as if no one knew what was going on at Sunday's HH3 run, Sex Sprinter steps in and makes it all clear!
Official directions from Songkhla are:
From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 10k and turn left at the Nam Noi traffic lights for 3.5k then turn right for about 500 meters, then turn right opposite the Or Bor Tor and follow the road through the village  for about 1k to the run site near the egg farm.
Hares are Leum Kii and Kouy Ping
Don't forget that the run starts at 4:00 p.m.
