Secrets of dung beetle navigation

So how's this for timing: among the 2013 Ig Nobel Prizes announced today was one for research into how dung beetles are able to arrange their rolls of poop into such neat, straight lines. Evidently they use celestial navigation. Could come in handy if you find yourself lost and disoriented at some point tomorrow evening.

Perhaps the most notable of the other Ig Nobels this year went to Scotland's Rural College for the discovery that "the longer a cow has been lying down, the more likely that cow will soon stand up." Read the exciting details here.

  1. You missed the Ignoble that went to the researchers who showed that people perceive themselves as more attractive after drinking alcohol (or a placebo drink)
    Self focused Beer goggles.
    (Placebo drinks. Horrifying. Not-real-beer!

We would like to visit Songkhla again after attending the Alor Star 8888 H3 10th anniversary run next Saturday-- 21 Sept...

We are looking to stay at a smallish hotel near the market, beach and hot bread shop.

    Can anyone assist us??

  8. Hey,

You could try the Singora Hotel (http://www.singorahotel.com/frontpage, the old Crown) or the Pavilion (http://www.pavilionhotels.com/Songkhla/index.html). Both are in town, the latter better placed for the bars and HB Shop, though the Pavilion would be cheaper. Tell them you're with an oil company (Unocal) for the corporate rate and that you didn't pay more than a grand last time. ;-)

    Look forward to seeing you.
