Return of the lost weekend: Go back and do it again!

Seeing as how none of us actually managed to get beyond the 2nd check in last weeks deluge, Beavershot will be resetting his lost weekend run this Saturday, possibly with the assistance of R2D2 to help him handle the huge bag of shreddy he has been given as he has finally seen the error of his ways over those horrible squares, at least during the wet season.
For those whose memories need prodding, the details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1682, 4:30 pm., Saturday, 7th September 2013
Hares: Beavershot and R2D2
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo Intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4.6k and turn left for 10.6k then turn right and go 1.1k to the runsite.
Sunday's HH3 map is:
Or: From  the Ko Yo intersection, Take the old Hatyai road for 10k to the Nam Noi traffic lights and turn left, then go 4k and turn right for about 400m to the run site. The hare is Godfather Sex, which sounds like something that should be investigated by Operation Yewtree!

  1. Unless I need to call R2D2 for emergency mid-lay search and rescue, I think this will be a solo effort. So be afraid . . . be very afraid!

  2. And oh yes, I don't have a sign to put up at the turn off from the OHR (and even if I did, it's almost a 20km roundtrip to plant it). So if nobody else puts one up there, just pretend it's there like it was last week and carry on to the sign a couple km beyond Wat Khao Kloi.

And this special offer: anybody who was there last Saturday and can't find the site tomorrow wins the Kii Leum Golden Compass Award.

  3. Next time Beaver says 'be very afraid' I'm going to listen to him!!

Beaver, enjoyed the run, so much better than our average! Its the first time Ive run with someone else for months, I'm usually on my own at the back and even though we got lost, that just added something to it.

Perhaps the real reason our hash is declining is nothing to do with water throwing or ice, that really is minor stuff. Maybe we miss the whole point of the hash, a hash is laid so that people of different abilities can participate, our run, is just that....a run, 5 people running flat out so they keep up with the leader, even to the extent where the hares tell us where the checks can be broken.

Anyway, I enjoyed it enormously and thanks to Jim and Buk Toy and Mick who came to fetch us!!

  4. Which is why there's a short run, for those with different abilities. If you set a catch-all run with low numbers, you end up with a very short run and little incentive for 'runners'. You cannot really suggest people that want to run hard, don't, because it somehow defeats the point, or for whatever reason. Having said that, capping it at an hour at a moderate pace with numerous checks could be an idea. Say 5kms, 20 checks.

Real reason for declination: lack of physical advertising, old blood, teacher/pupil mentality, a smidge of cronyism, samey chat and ideas. Perhaps the lead hare should be the GM for the day...

  5. ^^ The last line is not a slight on the current GM, of course - who does a ton of work to keep it all running - but more to mix it up a bit.

  6. I think its good to look at options and the suggestions above are well taken, 20 checks may be a little extreme, in fact we would stop every 250 meters, and that would p the runners off too! perhaps make the checks a little harder, allowing the back runners (OK, I mean me!) to at least see the pack occasionally. I do appreciate the way the checks are connected these days, that really does help the back runners (to get home before breakfast)

Lead hare to be the GM? Well, with long and short runs the hare is pretty busy anyway, and its usually Mick too! Perhaps a derivation of this is to have the GM this week nominate one person for the following week, not as stand in GM, but to come up with a couple of charges from the floor, they have a week to find or fabricate something. We did this in KL and it worked very well.

On On, into the dark, and wheres the paper, oh no, not again, I wonder if that house would lend me a phone? 'Mick? I don't know where I am, theres lots of trees and its very dark.....' Gan Yao

  7. Well you could have some at 100m, a few at 400m, a few at 250m, etc, but yes 20 is probably a bit excessive and also uses lots of paper. You could make the checks longer, though that would ultimately serve to extend the reach of the FRBs who typically break most of them. It might be best to incorporate more Xbacks and limit the length of the run in general so all can get in on it, and then on occasion when a longer is set also have a short one.

  8. Well, yes but they(the FRBs) break the checks because they are so far in front...because they broke the last check which was so easy it didn't turn the pack around (i.e put me in front!). Make them harder and you will find some of the FRBs get along way behind (cause they go the wrong way) it mixes the pack up On On Gan Yao (speaking from the back of the pack.......way back heeeeeeeeeere!!)
