Memories of Sadao

An exquisite work of art adorning one of the guest rooms at U House, a favorite lodging place of the hashing elite. We believe that this was inspired by a piece by Gustav Klimpt, the great Austrian painter . . . but for heaven's sake, what is that huge red thing?

Well, the 8th anniversary of Sadao Hash #1 came and went earlier this month without notice. Will we ever run there again? Maybe not unless SH3 or HH3 organize their own event, which somehow doesn't feel too likely. Anyhow, a couple memories from the archives. Ah Dannok . . . we knew you well.

Looking for the perfect souvenir? It's as easy as swiping anything you like from the guest rooms at the U House. The room door is a bit pricey at B10,000, never mind a little hard to transport. But how about a toilet lid for just B1000, or the whole toilet for a bargain B2500?

This Weekend's Monsters

Obsessively perfectionist, painstakingly accurate, unfailingly determined to achieve excellence, Yardstick corrects a glaring error in Tutti Fruity's laying technique and offers gentle guidance to tomorrow's co-hare.

A big weekend in prospect, with tomorrow's SH3 run hosting a big group of visitors from Penang International H3 who will also be going On! On! after in Songkhla. Then on Sunday they will all be going to to join the Sadao H3 run in Dannock details of which appear below and Hatyai H3 will also join the run in Sadao.

Misdirections for Saturday? Well, as the apocryphal Irishman said "If I was going to be going there, I wouldn't be starting from here!"

Officially: Songkhla Hash House Harriers run #1526, Saturday 4th September, 2010; 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Yardstick and Tutti Fruity
From Songkhla: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4.6k and turn left. Go 6k and turn left at the crossroads then go 4k to the run site on the right.

From Hatyai: From The Ko Hong Intersection take the old Songkhla road for 6k and turn right at the traffic lights at Nam Noi. Go 10k to the run site on the right.

The following section of this post is subject to a nerd-averse warning.
DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU LIKE A SIMPLE LIFE WITHOUT DIFFICULT DECISIONS!
BUT..... If you're coming from Songkhla and you know how to get to the big tree from the old Yala road (via either the 14k or 16k right turn offs) then the run site is about 1.8k beyond the big tree in the direction of Nam Noi, on the left hand side. OR... even shorter, take the 11.5k turning off the old Yala road ( just before Tung Wang) ; go 4.6k, joining the road coming down from Khao Ron, then turn right when you hit the Nam Noi-Tung Wang road, and the run site is 1k up on the left.
The poster would like to make it clear that he inserted the foregoing section while under the influence of an overwhelming desire to be obsessively perfectionist, painstakingly accurate and unfailingly determined to achieve excellence and that the views expressed do not represent the views of the Hares, the GM, or the bleedin' committee.

Sadao H3 yesterday

Was it really 7 years ago that ... ? You know the rest!

And the answer of course is 'yes it was' because there we were again in Dannock to celebrate the jubilee year.

Well some of us were. A combination of work, bereavements, enforced displacements and hangovers shrunk the attendance somewhat and once the usual crop of late arriving Malaysians had made it across the border, the runners were just about able to squeeze into a single song theow, with another half dozen or so choosing to find other forms of entertainment in Dannock while the rest of us were following the trail jointly laid by Just Rotten and Hash Pimp.

Jointly... hmmm... maybe competitively would have been a better description with the Hash Pimp section of the run (thick yellow line on the picture) heading off towards the lake while the Rotten section (Red line) headed to where the Song Theow awaited at the water tower. The resulting schism saw Only a Yolk romping home as first runner on paper, while front runners Star Soccer, Boh Geh, Egghead and a couple of other Malaysian hounds set off on Hash Pimp's bit of the run as darkness fell and had to be rescued by Just Rotten somewhere around the Water View Restaurant.

The circle was held and the food consumed at an interesting venue outside the 7-11 at the end of Soi 9 which despite its somewhat temporary air was a surprisingly effective location and attracted rather more observers than participants, most of whom got iced but stayed dry as there is apparently a drought in Dannock.

Having lead the pack home, Only a Yolk then proceded to dominate the nominations for sinners for variously short cutting, avaricious beer token behavior and having the temerity to suggest that the food at Sadao H3 always consisted of chicken curry. Rotten was later iced for having lied about that one as, sure enough, along with the barbecued kebabs there were large vats of chicken curry and rice to wash down the copious free beer.

Another chaotic afternoon which is what we go to Dannock for. The day Sadao H3 gets itself properly organised, starts its runs on time, always ends at the right place and finds a permanent friendly venue, will be the day it ceases to be worth going to!
Thanks Rotten and supporting cast for a great afternoon's entertainment.
On! On!

Sadao H3 today

Hatyai Hash will be running with Sadao H3 at their 7th birthday run today. Registration is from 2:00 p.m and will take place outside the PT Hotel on the main road in Dannock, close to Soi 11. Registration will be the usual 120 Baht and the T shirt will be an extra 150 Baht. Song Taews will leave for the A site at 4:00 p.m. and after dropping runners off will proceded to the B (or C) site, i.e. the end of the run, where the circle will probably take place, before returning everybody to town.
On! On!

The Awful Truth

Sadao, January 3, 2010: Deep in a hashish-induced trance, Egghead prepares a young victim for live sacrifice.

It's probably time we come clean on what really happens every three months down in Sadao . . . the blazing fires in the jungle, the procession of zombies, the unspeakable live sacrifices, and that hideous talking goat head -- no, hang on, that's just Rotten Johnny.

Anyhow it's happening again, probably two weeks from today on Sunday, March 7th. There should even be a new Sadao Hash blog up by then, so stay tuned.

Another year of Sadao-Masochism

Probably against their better judgment, a surprisingly large number of Songkhla, Hatyai, and Malaysian hashers turned out yesterday in Dannok for an utterly unplanned, chaotic mess of a Sadao Hash . . . but of course that's being redundant.

Between the usual delays and some especially moronic new ones (like the brainiac who drove his pickup into a ditch on the road to the runsite), the run didn't get under way till 5 pm. Which was a little worrisome since the hares had already admitted that it was a "longish" run and we had barely an hour of daylight ahead of us. But somehow everyone made it, and both the run and the ensuing circle back in town were classic Sadao stuff.

Evidently there will be at least a few more Sadao runs this year, perhaps even including a 7th anniversary event in a few months (?). So we humbly offer two suggestions for Rotten & Co:

1. Please announce and coordinate dates slightly more than 24 hours ahead of time. It worked this time because it was new year's, but Hatyai Hash deserves a little more consideration in future.

2. Please, please could we have at least one circle and dinner out at the reservoir? This is by far the loveliest little corner of Sadao (though I have to say that the sight of the garbage-strewn streets from my suite at the U House this morning was rather delightful), and it'd be nice to spend a bit of time out there rather than just swilling down a beer and jumping back onto the truck.
