Hill? What hill?

As can be seen from the picture above, there was a small hill in yesterday's run which apparently rendered much of the pack a little breathless and resulted in Little Tool abandoning the run at the beer stop.

There was also a small problem on the short run, with most of the pack failing to find the squared paper from their one check, which had not been properly broken by the front runners, and they instead blundered the wrong way onto the long run. But then to their credit they found a good route home albeit about 2k longer than the one the hare intended.

Meanwhile back at the beer stop, the two short runners who had found the right route were asked to take 'Nana' (Chihiro's youngest) back to the runsite and All Black thus ended up with a 17kg 'elephant' on her shoulders for the remainder of the run, about which she was later perceived to be not best pleased. They departed marginally before the long run arrived in exactly an hour and having manfully disposed of the beer, departed for home, minus Little Tool.

With only a fairly simple F to break about 200m from the runsite, they should have all been back there  by the time the beer-stop decided to leave its post on the assumption that the rest of the short cut had short run home (or should that be the other way round?) since with Only a Yolk, who has been known to take the odd short cut, among their number, there seemed to be every chance that they were already back at the runsite. But at the scene of the last F, Egghead and Little Tool found everyone, including the missing short runners milling around completely confused as to which way the paper went, with the result that virtually the whole hash arrived back at the run site within a couple of minutes.

For the record the long run was 7.7k including all the Fs and Xs and got up to 204m with a total ascent of 390 m for anyone who was unlucky enough to find Fs 3 and 4 both of which involved abortive descents. The short run was 4.2 k with the Fs it included, but the valiant long cutters racked up 5.8k and will, it is hoped, be setting that as a long run sometime in the future!
