Angkor marathon update

Stick Insect has become the first to sign up for our Angkor Half Marathon trip (event details here). He's flying there on the Air Asia itinerary I suggested: leave Hadyai at 10:50 and arrive at Siem Reap 15:45 on Friday, August 7. He's going to stay an extra day, coming back on Tuesday the 11th instead of Monday. Return flight times are 12:15-17:00.

So far we have 6 (or is it 7, with Kitty?) definites: Sticky, Yardo, the Eggs, and HJ and me. Anyone else interested?

  1. Half marathon? Is that when you go to the half way point, turn round and come back? Doubt if I'd work a sweat up, think I'll stay here and work on my training for the Brasil Olympics, (I'm sure I saw Usain Boult timing me from behoind a rubber tree last Saturday)

  2. It's true, it wouldn't be fair for you to enter an amateur event like this one, but at least come along and do the 3km "fun run". If you want more of a challenge you can carry Kitty on your back.

Meanwhile, Yardo says he's booked the same flights on the 7th (and the 11th?). HJ will be coming back as far as Bangkok on the 11th. More news as it happens.

  3. That's correct, 7th & 11th, and you better be quick that's already 3 seats booked on these flights, 14A (SI) 14C (HJ) & 12A (YS). Only 177 seats remaining.

  4. You could always invite Carsten along to take care of the remaining seats. :-°

I'd be a dead-cert if I weren't absconding. How depressing! Perhaps I'll get itchy feet and fly in from London.

    1. Carsten could sit in 14B and there would still be room to spare. I think you should definitely fly in from wherever.

  6. Be warned! One thing that I've discovered in my research on the Air Asia site is that the excursion price from Hatyai to Siam Reap is a rip off. At current prices booking the two flights separately is about 1000 Baht cheaper overall (500 Baht each way). That may not be such a big deal if you are going alone but for the Egg family that makes a lot of difference!

  7. Air Asia fares also can depend on the number of people -- e.g. two can cost more twice as much as one. I've often saved B500-1000 by booking HJ and myself separately.
