Hares: R2D2 and Schumukme Witherspoon
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the new Yala road for 7.5k and turn left then immediately left into the run site.

HH3’s run on Sunday (2nd May; 4:00 p.m.) is a Mrs. Egg production and the run site can be reached:
From Songkhla:
From the Kao Saeng intersection, take the old Yala road for 11.2k and turn right. Follow the road ahead for about 3k (including going across the cross roads after about 2k) to the run site on the left

From Hatyai:
Take the old Songkhla road to the Nam Noi traffic lights and turn right. Go 11k and turn left (on the road to Khao Ron). After 500m turn right and go a further 500m to the run site on the right.

Finally, on Friday night there will be a quiz night at the Office Bar and the quiz master is Kan Kai, alias Jackie. The Hash team is looking to continue it’s run of uninterrupted mediocrity so if you’re doing nothing come along and help Songkhla orphanage in whose aid the event is being held.

We're all smiling!

Well most of us are anyway. Yardo and Beaver have absented themselves but otherwise this is the full group who conducted the ascent of Khao Jedt Yod. Thanks to Schmukme for the photo.

Full Moon H3 gets Pussy!

Mmmmm!
This month's Full Moon H3 run gets the full pussy treatment and will be set by After Ours, Crackwurst, Only a Yolk and Temporary Relief. As befits the occasion, the girls have brought the date forward (i.e. the run will come a little early!) and will now be on TUESDAY 27th April at 7:00 p.m.
The run directions are:

From the Ko Yo intersection take the New Yala Road and go exactly 4k. Do a U turn and come back about 1k then do another U turn and check both sides of the road to see if there is a sign. If there isn't then proceed slowly up the road being careful only to look to the left or right, i.e. don't under any circumstances look at the road ahead or you might miss the sign. When you see the sign, go 100 meters past it and then reverse back on the wrong side of the road trying to avoid any unwary motorcyclists who happen to be driving on the correct side of the road. When you have checked that it IS the Hash sign and not a set of traffic lights, park your car in the road with the engine running and walk into the run site to find a competent driver to drive it into the run site and park it for you.

Ok, ok; so there's a little uncertainty about the exact location of the run site! But it will be on the New Yala Road around the 3-4k mark but could be on the left or the right.

Usual conditions apply: Bring a handlight and some beer or buy HFH3 special brew at 3 cans for 100 Baht. Contributions of food always welcome.

Misdirections: From the Ko Yo Intersection take the Old Hatyai Road for 4.6k and turn left for 8k, then turn right at Wat Keow Kloy into Th. Poonakan and go about 1k then start looking for the Hash sign on the left.

On Sunday (April 25th, 4:00 p.m.) HH3 are running with Union Hash and the run site is further down Poonakan on the right (From the Ko Yo Intersection take the Old Hatyai Road for 4.6k and turn left for 8k, then turn right at Wat Keow Kloy into Th. Next Wednesday (April 28th) is the next full moon so GM'ette is suggesting running on that day. Any volunteers for hares and/or ideas for a run site?

Separated at birth?

And after all that walking... there was running!

If you were hardy or foolhardy enough to tackle Saturday's run, this is what you did. The long run (in red) was about 4.5k and involved a climb of about 210 meters up to a maximum elevation of 248 meters. The short run (in yellow) was, well, short not to put too fine a point on it. Not the ideal form of relaxation after a long walk as the hare discovered on Saturday morning, taking almost 4 hours to drag his weary body round, including a tortuous 2 hours getting from the bottom to the top of the hill!

The agony and the ecstasy

Anybody else have any?

This weekend's run and next week's bonus run

Enough of this supernatural stuff!
Here are this weeks down to earth details:

SH3 run # 1504, Saturday 10th April 2010: 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Smeghead and Aaaaah!
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo Intersection, take the new Yala Road for 7.5 k and turn left then immediately left again into the run site.

There will be no HH3 run on Sunday (as the HH3 outstation run takes place on Ko Lede on Saturday) but on Tuesday there will be:

SH3 run # 1505, Tuesday 13th April 2010: 11:00 a.m.
Hares: TBA
Misdirections: Go to the Hot Bread Shop in Sisuda Road. Await further instructions!

Both runs will host around 15 guest runners from KL Full Moon Hash so if you're not going on the HH3 outstation run please come along on Saturday and help to make our guests welcome.

Tuesday's Run will be our usual town walk and there will be a T-shirt on sale on the day but otherwise the run including food afterwards and beer on the run will be free. However we are still looking for a few more beer sponsors and there's the small matter of who is going to set the run, so if you are willing to volunteer on either score let someone from the committee know on Saturday or reply to this post with a comment.
On! On!

Whither quiz nite

Cheers to Eric le Frog for keeping Songkhla's Quiz Nite going. But in case you haven't noticed, attendance isn't exactly booming. Between the increasingly late starting hour and a couple recent dead-in-the-water quizzes, a growing number of us seem to be finding better uses for our Friday evenings in town.

As the reigning Quiz Nite champs, not to mention its main source of quizmeisters (now to include, it seems, S. Witherspoon), SH3 finds itself in a key position to help maintain this venereal I mean venerable institution.

To that end, let's humbly offer three suggestions to keep Quiz Nite alive:

1) Whatever subjects you choose for your questions -- and obviously the best quizzes cover a wide variety of ground -- give people the satisfaction of being able to answer most of them. The perfect quiz question is one that a team has to think about for a few moments, but then know exactly what the right answer is. A good 60-question quiz should be designed so that a typical team gets at least 45-50 right. Much less than that and it starts becoming an exercise in frustration.

2) Unlike school, this is for fun. Forget dates, exact names and numbers, and other uselessly detailed trivia. Focus on the trivia that's interesting -- things you'll actually want to know if you don't already. In what year did Jim Morrison die? That's boring. But what drug did he die of? That's interesting.

3) Start the gaddam thing before the evening is half over!!
