SH3 communications, Post-Egghead

The classic "Dungbeetle Goes on Holiday" issue of the Scum, April 2006. Just one of the countless historical treasures you'll find at our OneDrive link.
After some discussion among the mismanagement, er no, publishing board, no, the Cronies, we’ve decided to keep this blog going despite the fact that almost nobody comes here anymore. One reason is to give us a permanent record of all runsites*. It’s also possible that old hashers may try to re-establish contact by coming here. So as much as possible I’ll try to continue re-posting misdirections here every week, and reply if anyone has a question.

Most of us these days get our SH3 run info via either the mailing list (if you’re not on it just contact Eightball: dave [dot] kohyoh [at sign] gmail [dot] com) or else Facebook (Songkhla Hash House Harriers SH3). There’s also a very active Messenger group, which you can join even without being on Facebook.

But until Blogspot kicks us off, we’ll leave this site up. There’s a huge amount of amusing old material here, from rehashes and GPS trails to photos and plenty of great comments. Most of the content came from Egghead, and I at least almost always smile when I read it.

If that’s not enough nostalgia for you, check out our archive of scanned SH3 artifacts, from the very start in 1981 to the last issues of The Scum (the original printed one) in the mid-2000s. Egghead, Yardstick and I finished the scanning work only a couple weeks ago, which in retrospect feels very lucky indeed. You'll find it here: https://1drv [dot] ms/f/s!Ane2JCUNbOQ-iF42EAIG3Zza41qo

*And so here for the record are the misdirections for last Saturday, 25 July 2020. Don’t go there this week!

Not that Lek and Jim!

This Lek and Jim:
Contrary to what seemed to be announced at last week's SH3 circle, this week's run is being set by that Jim and Lek, not Sex Sprinter and Buk Toy, and the run site is in Bhudhan Valley as illustrated.

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #2030, Saturday, July 18, 2020, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Dor Yair, Dor Yoi
and Rubber Doll
Misdirections: From The Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4.7 km and turn left for 8 km, then right (at Wat Keow Kloy onto Poonakan) for 6.2 km and turn left at the sign into Bhudan valley then follow signs/paper to the run site at  N 7.000817° E 100.530421°. Click here for Google Maps' pin. If coming from the other end of Poonakan, Bhudan valley is 4.8 km on the right.

Sunday's HH3 run is being set by Moo Sahb and Kai Jeow and is from opposite the big sala in the road opposite Ban Borogam on the land next to the lake at N 7.073825° E 100.606368°.  Click here for Google Maps' pin. OrFrom the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4 km and turn left at the traffic lights just after the PTT station. Follow the road for 5.2 km (including bearing sharp right after 4 km) and turn left opposite the temple arch for Wat Borogam. Go 700 m then turn right at the big sala and go down the ramp towards the lake. From Hatyai, the turning off of the old (Kanjanawanit) road is about 13 km from the Kor Hong traffic lights or about 6 km from the Nam Noi traffic lights and on the right. Map below.

But before all that there will be a hash-inspired get-together at the beer garden at the top of Kanjanawanit Soi 37, just past Songkhla's Lotus-Tesco on the left at N 7.156970° E 100.602758° (click here for Google Maps' pin) on Friday evening (July 17). The beer garden has everything a hasher needs: reasonably priced beer, beautiful serving wenches, handsome men (ok, some of them are not that handsome) excellent food and great live music from about 9:00 p.m. with the highlight being around 11:00 p.m. when Thailand's answer to Coldplay will deliver their usual stunning set. Aim to be there for the start of the music or earlier if you want to eat without Egghead pinching your french fries!

Further on up the road

This week's SH3 run is, according to the hares, being set from "...a bit further up the road from our last run".
The details are, therefore, Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #2029, Saturday, July 11, 2020, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Not the Full Shilling, Worm and Mai Dtem Baht.
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4.7 km and turn left then go 8k and turn right at Wat Keow Kloy into Poonakan. After 900 m turn left by the house with the blue roof and go 200 m then turn right and follow the road for 500 m to the old runsite (for run 2025) at 7°01'11.3"N 100°34'19.3"E (click here for Google Maps' pin) then go a bit further until you come to the new runsite!

Hatyai Hash's run on Sunday is being set by a mystery hare, whose identity is probably Gu Man Thong, from the run site 600 m east of the stretch of road between Tha Kham and Wat Keow Kloy (1.2 km south of Tha Kham, turn left, or 600m north of Wat Keow Kloy, turn right,) at 7.031075°  E 100.583800° (click here for Google Maps' pin). Map below.

Pichit Tollway welcomes SH3

Saturday's SH3 run will be from the now completed but almost completely unused Pichit Tollway stretching from Wat Neon Pichit into the middle of nowhere!

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #2028, Saturday, July 4th, 2020, 4:30 p.m.
Hare: Yardstick
Misdirections: From the Ko Yor intersection, take the old Hatyai road for 4.7km and turn left for 10.6 km. Turn left at the hash sign (about 350 m before Wat Noen Pichit), and staying right, go 3.8 km before turning left for 300 m to the runsite at N7°0'3.8" E100°37'2.2" (7.0010°N 100.6173°E - click here for Google Maps' pin). From Hatyai, proceed to Wat Khao Kloi and head south towards Noen Pichit for 2.8km before turning left etc.

It had been hoped that since Saturday is American Independence Day, our US contingent would be providing turkey and all the trimmings after the run to celebrate their freedom from the shackles of British imperialism, but unfortunately it has been discovered that out US contingent is currently holed up in Phnom Penh, so will probably be unable to assist with the après run feast. Therefore, as usual, all contributions would be gratefully welcomed.

Sunday's HH3 run is TBA and details will be added later.
