The post-April fools day full moon run 2015

This month's full moon run will happen on Thursday of this week and the details are:

Hatyai Full Moon Hash House Harriers run #117, 2nd April 2015, 7:00 p.m.
Hare: Kai Jeow
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection, take the old Hatyai road for 4.7k  and turn left then go 4.2k and turn left and follow the road for 1.9k then turn left up the track for 300m to the run site. From Hatyai follow the old road over the hill past Steak Nai Suan and turn right opposite Wat Nern Salai then go 4.2k etc. or if you are coming from Poonakan, head for the Tha Kham crossroads (2k North of Wat Keow Kloy) and carry on beyond them for 1.9k then turn right and go 1.9k then turn left and go 300m up the track to the run site.

Usual stuff applies: bring a hand/head light of you intend to run and some food if you feel like it. Beer will be on sale at 3 cans for 120 Baht but if you want to bring your own and SHARE IT WITH YOUR FRIENDS that's ok too.

Saturday's SH3 news is that Gan Yao will be the hare and the run site will be somewhere easily accessible to Tung Jaeng so that those that want to can have dinner with Kii Ling, who will be departing for foreign climes (i.e. Bangkok), after the circle. Nothing formal but TJ will be warned to expect a crowd. More later in the week.

Prodigal son

Brilliant run today from Silly Pants & wife . . . well, brilliant in that it lost both Lady of the Lamp and Tsunami (pictured above), and in totally different directions. The Lady made it back under his (her?) own steam but Tsunami had to be searched and rescued. Does it get any sweeter?

Webmaster and hash flash outta here. See you all next month!

1762 was...

...originally intended to be around 8k, but ended up at a fairly modest 6.3k  - rather longer with all the 7 F's and 3 X's included, which  contributed to the 1 hour 14 minutes recorded for the long run. Total ascent and maximum height were both around 90 meters. The short run cut across somewhere between the first and second checks and also cut out the run up the valley between the 5th and 7th Fs, so must have been over 4k and took only a couple of minutes less to complete than the long run. Softie bought the beer truck for his birthday and there was no beer left for down-downs which were therefore completed with obligatory raspberry vodka or Sambuca.

At 1762 were...

Two runs and a quiz

This weeks SH3 details are:

Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run# 1762, Saturday March 28th 2015, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: R2D2 and (yawn!) Egghead and the muts
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng Intersection take the old Yala road for 17.5k and turn right after Rong Rien Thang Kwai. Follow the road for about 1.2k then turn right across the rice paddies and follow signs, paper and your intuition to the run site. For anyone coming from Hatyai, take a right at the Nam Noi traffic lights and go 12.5k to the big tree at Sai Kao then go straight ahead for 3.5k to Wat Kun Thong and turn right onto the old Yala road for 1.6k then turn right just after Rong Rien Thang Kwai etc.

Before that, on Friday night, there is a quiz night at the Office bar (8:00 p.m.) when the quiz master will be Eightball, thus leaving the soft underbelly (or bellies as they have more than one) of the teachers' team open to attack. The hash cronies will be hoping to make it 3 in a row, so please come along and set up in opposition to them lest they become complacent!

Finally, Sunday's HH3 details are not immediately call-to-mindable but will be added later if they become available or will be announced on Saturday.

Last Saturday's SH3 run (above), which took the first runner home 1 hr 8 mins, was about 7.2k with a maximum height in the region of 280m and a total ascent of about 260m. Neither of the hares managed to correctly predict the correct number of checks, X's and falsies, and the picture omits one of each. The hares did however agree that picking up paper is a good deal more difficult than laying it, but the end result was a generally well appreciated run. The short run was a mere 2.8k and featured Smeghead's first attempt at a hash post double hip-op; we expect him to be following up in a couple of months with a proper run!

Sunday's HH3 run, in contrast, was laid in the traditional way but the end result was not that different:  length, 7.3k, max. height, 270m, total ascent 254m, first runner home in 1hr 15mins. The short run was a whopping 4.8k.

Siem Reap hotel info

A total of 9 rooms for the 17 or so people confirmed to be going to the Angkor Empire Marathon event 6-10 August have now been booked at the Angkor Pearl Hotel. If you're one of this select group you should have already received an email with all relevant details.

For anybody else who decides to join us between now and August, please contact the hotel directly (Mr. Rom Chen <info@angkorpearl.com>) to make your own arrangements. It's a pretty big hotel and it will be low season, so they should have rooms available for at least a few more months. The rooms go for about $30 a night.

Now back to that training program. Where's my beer . . . .

Re-lay Man!

After last week's semi-successful (as in it succed!) relay run, this week's run will be a re-lay run, since the hares will be hoping to be able to recycle all that lovely shreddie that Yardstick and Shortscrew left lying about on the hill above Prem's Place at the last full moon run to produce a completely new run for SH3.

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers run #1761, Saturday, March 21, 2015; 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Yardstick and Egghead
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the new Yala road for 800 meters and turn left. After 700 meters, follow the road as it turns right up the hill then continue on up the hill behind the Home of Faith for about 1k to the runsite.

Sunday's HH3 run will be a Khai Jeow/Moo Sahb/Full Moon affair from Sala Hin Kliang ( from Songkhla, take the OHR for 4.7k and turn left for 6k then left for 1.5k then right for 500m to the run site in the middle of the road; From Hatyai, take a right at the Nam Noi traffic lights and go 8.5k then turn right for 5oom.) The run will begin after you get there so don't be late!

1760: Directionally challenging!

Yesterday's relay-hare run was not for the faint hearted. Logged at 7.8k by the official GPS with unofficial estmates as high as 9k, it never quite seemed to settle into a logical course with the result that the short run abandoned the task of keeping up and headed home not long after the first hand over.
Stick Insect set the tone when, after heading North out of the runsite, he rejected crossing the Borogam road into familiar territory and turned back towards the run site before handing over to Lanky Yanee, more or less obliging him to set off in the same direction where he eventually met the quarry wall and just waited to be found. Egghead and Buk Toy then took the run to what should have been its limit, had Stick Insect not then decided to take it even further, before realising that to be impossible and being "caught" attempting to retrace his steps. Egghead again stepped into the breach, restoring some sort of directional logic, relinquishing the bag to Stick Insect (again) and pointing him in the direction of the now more or less accessible runsite. Sticky however had other ideas and after initially setting a course for the run site, lurched rightwards almost hitting the out trail before a final handover to Yardstick. By That time some of the more directionally-savvy runners had realised how close the runsite actually was and left Yardo to it. He added a further loop to the in-trail before bringing the remaining runners home in about 1 1/2 hours.

Hare out of the hat

With such a successful town run last weekend, the decision was made to ride our luck this week, and go for the first relay hare run of 2015.

Hatyai H3 this Sunday: details to be announced on Saturday, no doubt.

Town run!

Tomorrow's run is a town run. Not too many details of the format as we write but it will all be made clear tomorrow!
Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1759, Saturday, March 7th 2015,  4:30 p.m. (yes, its summer time again!)

Misdirections: Bai Meang Restaurant, Thanon Sadao (opposite Kao Noi Palace) bor Yang, Songkhla.
Sunday's HH3 run is being set by the Sex people and directions are: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4.7k and turn left for 8k then turn right (at Wat Keow Kloy into Poonakan) and go 5k. Turn left just before Wat Tungnai and go about 1k. The run site is on the right.

FM-116 Run Rehash

Where the hell!! are we, seemed to be the prevailing comment on this run. And this was reflected by the interesting directions in which the paper was being looked for at the checks and false trails, especially on the reservoir side of the run. It's amazing how much different this hill looks like at night.
The run was a mere 7.2kms after the hare Yardstick and Chief Paper Bitch Layer Short Screw took pity on the pack and offered them a ride to the B site, bypassing all that expensive shreddy laid down between the runsite and the B site. It was left to the short runners to make use of this track before rejoining the long run track down the hill back to the beer and food. The short run was a touch under 2.7km with a total ascent of 85m.
The long runners came in, almost all together, in just over 1 hour 10 minutes, which was a stunningly fast time considering the run covered a total ascent of  over 300 metres and included 8 checks and 8 false trails. The only hiccup is when we discovered that Only A Yolk had failed to return to the runsite after departing the track at the F05 false trail to short cut back to the beer across the top of the hill. After a quick search by Short Screw, OAY was conveyed back to the runsite by white knight SS on the back of his steed, much to the relief of a forlorn Egghead.

Makha Bucha Full Moon

This month's Full Moon run will be tomorrow, Wednesday March 4th which coincidentally is Makha Bucha day, so all the bars will be shut and no alcohol will be on sale anywhere, except at the Hash that is.
Details are:
Hatyai Full Moon Hash House Harriers' run #116, Wednesday, 4th March 2015, 7:00 p.m.
Hare: Yardstick
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the new Yala road for 800 meters and turn left. After 700 meters, follow the road as it turns right up the hill then continue on up the hill behind the Home of Faith for as far as necessary to the runsite.
Usual stuff applies: bring a hand/head light if you are going to run; beer on sale at 3 cans for 120 Baht, but you're welcome to bring your own if you prefer; contributions of food gratefully accepted!
Just as a reminder, this will be Short Screw's last run before he departs for Siberia Hereford so do come along and wish him well... or sympathise with him if that seems more appropriate!

Wham, bang, thank you ma'am!

As advertised yesterday's erection lasted all of 5 minutes, with the incumbent GM fighting off stiff challenges from the Cube and a piece of tarot root, to assume the reins of power (POWER! POWER! POWER!) for a third successive year. R2D2 valiantly stepped up to take over the Hash Cash job from Stick Insect who, as there was no one else available, was immediately appointed as the new hare raiser. So this year's committee is exactly the same as last year's  - only the titles have changed!

Having got that out of the way in double quick time, the run that followed was almost as quick, with the first runner reportedly home in about 50 minutes, which was a snip for a 6k run with 240m of ascent reaching 180m on 3 occasions, and including at least 2 checks that were reported to be "challenging". The 4.3k short run was completed in the right direction by only one runner, R2D2 with the remainder of the short pack turning round at the base of the hill and coming home the way they went out. Som nom na! To make up for their failure, Only a Yolk short cut down the hill more or less where the short run should have gone up it, so doing the run in reverse. Somehow she managed to escape being iced by the new GM. Hmmmm.
The circle was enlivened by the gift of beer including another case of the "black acid" Royal Stout from Malaysia with a kick like a donkey's dingle. Fond farewells were said to Short Screw, Buck and Flowerpot Man and Meal's on Wheels new mutt was named Mop. There was an on after at Thung Jaeng at which the vernacular contingent locked themselves in the karaoke room while the farangs and Temporary Relief (who must have had a sore throat) played silly games involving drinking large amounts of beer.
