SH3 this week?

Sad to say, there will be no SH3 run this Saturday (29th November) mainly because the athletic cream of the hash (ahem! ahem!) will be in Kuala Lumpur joining the Batu H3 25th anniversary run, while the vernacular contingent have an engagement in Hatyai that evening which will make it difficult for them to join a run in Songkhla.

Late registrants for the Batu run would however be welcome. It's no more than a 5-hour drive down after crossing the border and there is still some scope in the accommodation arrangements to fit some more people in at the Greenview Hotel. Registration is MYR80.

The HH3 run on Sunday 30th November is out Na Mom way - convenient for the returnees from KL to make the run. A thinly disguised forgery of a Sex Sprinter map below. If the real thing should turn up before departure for KL, it will be added later.

Finally, don't forget that there will be a Hatyai Full Moon H3 run on Thursday 4th December with the real Sex Printer as hare. Details of the location will be sent out early next week.

That ridge ...AGAIN!!

This is what last week's SH3 ran looked like, well on paper anyway. The short run had some liberties taken with it when interpreted by R2D2, which meant that it was run backwards by the short runners, most of whom apparently decided that it was all too hard and decided to make a beeline for the runsite after waiting for the beer truck to arrive at the designated beer stop. Never mind, by all accounts it was greatly appreciated by the long runners who finally happened upon it after negotiating the third and final hill, but even they opted out of the malicious little loop after the beer stop, and enjoyed the lovely riverside jog back to the runsite. There was no intention by the hare to go to the top of the hill, but there must be some mysterious magnet by this range that no matter where you start from, you still end up on top of the ridge. I must make a note to myself next time ...- don't go up!!

The long run was a shortish 6.8kms and 257m up, but that didn't include the false trails, of which nine were planned, but may well have ended up being somewhat more. The hares were too exhausted by the end of the setting to remember.

Our newest almost-runner

From today's funeral/run: this jovial fellow was best buddies with Sexy Cop's late father, and exactly the same age (77). He stuck around for the whole circle and seemed rather fascinated by it all. Listen, we're not getting a whole lot of new young runners. Maybe it's time to try for a new demographic.

HH3, 23 November 2014

Tomorrow's HH3 run will start at 3:00 p.m. From Songkhla the drive takes about 1 hour.
DirectionsFrom The Kao Seng intersection take the 408 South until it joins the 43 coming from Hatyai at Khuan Mit (about 23k). After 6k, leave the 43 at the turn off right onto the 408, and go 21k then turn left about 2k after a PTT station on the right, near Wat Pradoo Moo, (the turning will be marked with a hash sign) for about 2k then turn left at a T junction to the wat as shown on the map in the post below then follow paper to the run site  about 1k beyond. If you are coming from Hatyai, go to the Khlong Rien junction beyond Macro and turn left towards Na Mom. Follow the road for 25k until it hits the 408 coming from Songkhla at Khuan Mit and follow it round to the right for 6k etc.

A good map is worth a thousand words

This week, our master cartographer, Sex Sprinter, who coincidentally is not one of the hares for either of this weekend's runs, has produced not one, but two superbly detailed images to ensure that NO ONE (ok, that doesn't include Perky) could possibly get lost on the way to either of this weekend's fabulous runs. Above is a period piece; vintage 2010. The map's legend has been lovingly updated to reflect the run details, but the sheer magnificence of the complete lack of scale and perspective demands that this classic piece of misrepresentation should once again see the light of day.

For the tragically literal who cannot immediately relate this fabulous piece of artistic license to the mundane reality in which we are all forced to exist, the run details are:

Songkhla Hash House Harriers run # 1744, Saturday 22 November 2014, 4:00 p.m.
Hares: Yardo and The Botty Boy
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng intersection, take the old Yala road for 16k and turn right at Wat Khun Tong, then follow the road for 3.5k past the big tree and turn immediately left. In 200m bear right with the road and follow paper, signs, your instincts to reach the runsite after a further 1k, located on the concrete road behind Sai Kao village.

Our social responsibility correspondent comments
: It has been raining this week and the earth under the rubber trees will likely be wet and liable to be churned up by car wheels. Therefore, please do not leave the concrete road in your vehicle. Leave it on the road and thus prevent the embarrassment of the local villagers attacking us with back hoes and other implements of religious vengeance.

Sunday's (23rd November 2014:4:00 p.m.) HH3 run will be from a completely new run site in a completely new Ampur, where we have absolutely definitely never run before, so don't miss this once in a lifetime event. The occasion for this piece of innovation is the funeral of Sexy Cop's father who passed away this week and is currently lying at Wat Tha Phru just North of Na Thawee as advised earlier in the week. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. and after the ceremony, Robocop, Sexy Cop and their family will be setting the HH3 run from the vicinity of the temple.

Another classic Sex Printer map below which has been amended from Wednesday's slightly misleading version. Directions for thee of little faith are:

From The Kao Seng intersection take the 408 South until it joins the 43
coming from Hatyai at Khuan Mit (about 23k). After 6k, leave the 43 at the turn off right onto the 408, and go 21k then turn left about 2k after a PTT station on the right, near Wat Pradoo Moo, (the turning will be marked with a hash sign) for about 2k then turn left at a T junction to the wat as shown on the map below.

Finally, In case you have forgotten, next weekend the Batu H3 25th anniversary run takes place and a small but significant portion of SH3 will be travelling to KL for the event. A decision needs to be taken whether to run on Saturday 29th and if so which public spirited hasher will hare it in the knowledge that it may be a little under-run. Over to you R2D2!

Hollywood

Funny how a camera near the finish line inspires hashers to try to look like Usain Bolt. From today's Hatyai Hash, right by the artistic (oh, you mean "autistic"?) school. Click on it for full impact!

1743

Now with added beer stop!
"...went up to about 270m (run site 38m), short run a little over 200m. Not sure of distances as had an issue with the map app, but guessing the long run was 6.5-7kms, short run 4-4.5kms."
Thanks to Short Screw for a great run; apologies to the squirrels. Now you know why we never see any wildlife in the jungle!

Beer & squirrel

It was like that Henry Mancini song, "Champagne and Quail", except not quite as classy. First the kids got wasted on beer*. Then the adults went off and ate squirrel at Luuk Kaeo, the "jungle food" restaurant next to Thung Jaeng. Oh, and there was a run too, courtesy of Short Screw a.k.a. Sexy Maggot. Sorry, no photos of the run or the squirrel.
*No wait, that was the adults.

Short of a mango

This week's run is being set by Sex of the Mango who has provided the following helpful hint about finding the runsite: "500 meters on the left". No doubt what he had in mind was:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1743, Saturday, November 15th 2014, 4:00 p.m.
Hare: Short Screw
Misdirections: from the Ko Yo intersection take the new Yala road for 800 meters and turn left for 500 meters to the run site on the left.
If not, no doubt he will let us know!

HH3's Sunday run site was last reported to be in the vicinity of Ban Phru (take the Old Hatyai road past Macro, through the Klongrien junction and onto the Sadao road then go about 3-4k until you see a sign, probably on the left). The hares are Sex Star and friends.

But probably of more importance are details of the funeral of After Ours. On Friday night (November 14th) SH3 will be supporting the ceremony at the wat (Wat Saket, Sala 2) at 7:00 p.m. so please come along and join the final night of remembrance and support Crackwurst who has organised everything this week following Nian's untimely death. The funeral itself will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Rehash of Run 1742

Despite dire warnings of  a typhoon blowing us all to hell if we were to continue on our hash path of  waywardness, and despite the directions to the run site being turned into a monkeys arse, there was a reasonable turnout last Saturday at the runsite, although the contingent from HH3 was rather singular. As it was the rain stayed mostly away, and as we found out on Sunday the forecast typhoon had diverted north to ravish more deserving communities.

The temporary loss of the beer truck, perhaps due to the misdirections resembling, well you know, made the start of the hash even more confusing than normal, and in the end we had to take the rather drastic step of setting out on the long run without the beer truck being present. The 8 long runners managed to stay nicely bunched all the way around due to the clever design by the hares, but more so by the fact that mother nature had managed to wash away, or rather melt away, all evidence of any shreddy and it was left to the hare to guide the hounds through some surreptitious mummy haring. The usual short runners, perhaps wisely, elected to stay and eat, and drink the beer, while R2D2 with Itchy Bitchy, and newish runner Graham were the only short runners to venture forth.

The long run had a total of 6 checks, 8 false trails & 1 check back, which nobody actually reached because of some false calling by Sex Sprinter of "are you?" while standing on the "real" paper.
The stats for the runs were:
Long Run:  7.6kms long, 277m total ascent, max elevation about 100m.
Short Run:  2.8kms, 90m total ascent. Declining to jump on the beer truck after the beer stop, all the long runners and even the short runners elected to complete the run either by following the very scarce paper, or walking back along the road to the runsite.

Nasca Lines revealed as early attempt at Hash-mapping

Saturday's runsite; The big tree appears as a splodge in the upper right corner, with the big tree-Kun Tong road running diagonally down towards the lower left corner. The actual runsite is represented as a spiral centered on its most probable location. Any similarity to a monkey is purely coincidental.
Professor Yardo and his amiable sidekick R2D2 have been at it again this week and as well as this creditable attempt at a map, they have provided the following details of this week's SH3 run.
Songkhla Hash House Harriers run #1732, Saturday 8th November 2014, 4:00 p.m.
Hares: Yardstick and R2D2
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng intersection take the old Yala road for 16k then turn right for 2.7k, then left, just after the arch across the road, for 0.9k  to the runsite at the end of the concrete.
If you are coming from Hatyai, take a  right turn at the Nam Noi traffic lights for about 13.5k, to Sai Kao village, then go straight ahead, passing the big tree on your left and go a further 0.8k before turning right just before the arch.

Sunday's HH3 run will be set by Sex Sprinter and the run site will be in Th. Prutoh Tungnai, which is the road connecting Wat Prutoh and Th Punnakan. From Songkhla, take the OHR and turn left at the Nam Noi traffic lights then go 3.5k and turn right after Wat Prutoh, then follow the road until you see the run site.

Finally, a big thank you to everyone who came to the full moon run and made the party afterwards such a happy event - mainly by bringing so much beer that it just couldn't fail! Thanks also to Temporary Relief for additional alcohol smuggled in in the form of a delicious birthday cake. If you missed it spend the next year being nice to her and she might make one for you!

Full moon run/Egghead's birthday

The next full moon run will take place this Wednesday, 5th November 2014 which coincidentally will be Egghead's birthday. So the run will be set from Egg Towers and there will be a party to follow to which hashers and non-hashers alike will be very welcome.

For that reason the run will start at 7:00 sharp (that means 7:00 p.m., as in 7 o'clock in the evening, a.k.a. the time between 18:59hrs and 19:01hrs) so if you want to do the run please be there a bit before that and don't forget to bring a hand-light. There will only be one run which will be do-able by both long and short runners alike. Non-runners are very welcome, so bring your families along even if they are not runners or regular hashers. There'll be plenty of food and beer/drinks but you can never have enough of either so all contributions gratefully welcomed!

There's a map below for the uninitiated or just take the 4k turn left off the old Hatyai road and look for a sign on the right after 5.2k then follow signs to the runsite.

See you there!
