Same place different time

Wednesday night's full moon run was so successful that we will be doing it all over again on Saturday - same hare, same runsite but this time we should be able to see where we are going!
Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1988, Saturday August 17, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hare: Yardstick
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng intersection take the Old Yala Road for 16.0km (5.3km from the NYR / OYR intersection at Ang Thong) and turn right just before Wat Khun Thong. Proceed for 2.0km along the concrete & bitumen road, then turn left and go 1.2km along the concrete & dirt road to the runsite at N7° 01.922' E100° 38.514'. Click here for Google Maps pin.
For Hatyai visitors go to the big tree in the middle of the road at Ban Sai Khao, then go straight ahead past the big tree for 1.4km and turn right for 1.2km.
Take care when driving along the narrow concrete road to the runsite, as there are high drop-offs if you run off the concrete.

Hatyai Hash's run on Sunday will be set by Robocop from the football field beyond Wat Nern Pijit at 6.987984°N 100.571556°E. The map for the run site is below. At the old Hatyai road 4.7k turn off turn left for 12.3k and turn right for 1k to the football field on the right.

Full mooning in the age of Aquarius

This month's full moon run will take place on Wednesday 14th August, which falls within the star sign of Aquarius, which, as we all know....

"... is the sign of the humanitarian and is represented by a woman carrying a jug of water. The woman symbolizes the healer in us all and the water symbolizes the heavy emotions, the pain, and the suffering of the world."

Ah, yes, well pain and suffering - we all know about that don't we? After HH3's monster on Sunday, culminating for the second week in a row with a beer stop that was out of this world, as in it was so far up a hill that it was almost in the sky! So if you are sore of limb and stiff of joint and in need of some humanitarian aid in the form of Beer Leo, come along and enjoy a kinder gentler experience at the hands of our very own mystical healer, Inchdick.
Details are:
Hatyai Full Moon Hash House Harriers' run # 147, August 14, 2019, 7:00 p.m.
Hare: Inchdick
Take care when driving along the narrow concrete road to the runsite, as there are high drop-offs if you run off the concrete.Usual stuff applies. Bring a hand/head light of you intend running and some food if you think you will be hungry (and it is worth repeating that Moo Sahb will still be in Bangkok so the Egg family will not be able to provide food this time round). Beer Leo will be on sale at 40 Baht a can but if you prefer, bring your own beer and share it with your mates.

This weekend's runs

With due apologies ... SH3's run details this weekend are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1987, Saturday August 10, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hare: Sex Sprinter
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng intersection take the old Yala road for 16k and turn right just before Wat Khun Thong. Follow the road for 1.5k and turn left and follow the track for 300m then turn right for 100m to the runsite at 7.037856, 100.642830 (click here for Google maps pin). From the the Hatyai direction, head east from the Tha Kham intersection for about 6k to the big tree then go straight ahead towards Wat Khun Thong for 2k and turn right for 300m etc. (Map below)

Hatyai Hash's run tomorrow is a special in memory of the late Khun Hlek ("Ironman", picture below) who tragically passed away after suffering breathing problems during a marathon 2 weeks ago. The run fee will be 150 Baht and all the money raised will go towards helping his kids (Blue Dog and Rotweiler). The run will start early so it is suggested to be at the run site which is the football field in Poonakan Road  (7.010244° 100.548180°,map at bottom) before 3:30 p.m. Please try and turn out for this one as he was a lovely guy and his kids, who are both runners at HH3, deserve all the help we can give them.

It's never too late....

Following a late-notified no-show, this week's SH3 details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run # 1986, Saturday, August 3, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Egghead and Harram
Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4.7k and turn left for 8k, then turn right (at Wat Keow Kloy, into Poonakan) for 1.2k and turn left for 500m to the runsite at 7.019247° N 100.569005° E. The long run will, as usual, be a dead-hare run but as long as there are some short runners up for the challenge, the short run will be laid live with the hare getting a 10 minute start.

Sunday's HH3 run is being set by Safe-T-Cut, ITUT and Sex Lecture. Map below.
From Wat Keow Kloy, take Poonakan for about 5k and turn left before Wat Tung Ngai then look for the hash sign/run site on the right. From The other end of Poonakan, the turning at Wat Tung Ngai is at about 6k on the right.

And don't forget that tonight (Friday August 2) there is a quiz night at Oscars Bar in Songkhla to which all are welcome, indeed desperately needed to try and prevent another head to head between the team formerly known as the Evil Teachers and the SH3 old-timers, who ground their way to a draw last time around. The quizmaster is Egghead and the quiz should start at 8:00 p.m so please try to be on time.

Where the excavators play

Progress marches on, or in Songkhla's case it crawls along on caterpillar tracks. Yes, our old friends the excavators have been out in the countryside around Napong where this week's SH3 run takes place, so some new trails have appeared and some old ones have been subsumed in the process. But the run will take in some varied terrain, explore some old run sites, and maybe even go where no run has gone before.

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1985, Saturday, July 27, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares Egghead and Harram
Misdirections. From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4k and turn left at the Kuan Hin traffic lights. Go 5.2k and turn left opposite the temple arch at Wat Borogam for 500m to the runsite on the right opposite the big sala at 7.074643°N 100.606273°E. Click here for Google Maps location. From Hatyai, the Kuan Hin lights are 6k beyond the Nam Noi traffic lights and the turning is on the right. (Alternative routes via Tha Kham available on request. Just leave a comment below.)

Sunday's HH3 run is being set by ITUT and is being advertised as a one-run-suits-all affair. The general location seems to be somewhere in the vicinity of Route 43/Na Mom but more details will be posted here when available.

And for our next number....

This weeks' SH3 run is a little bit further up the OYR than Yardo has been taking us of late, not only to access some new country but also to avoid the drive through the village which can be a bit tricky, particularly after the run.

Details are:
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1984, Saturday July 20, 2019, 4:30 p.m.
Hares: Yardstick and All Black
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng intersection take the Old Yala Road south for 19.0km (9.7km from the NYR / OYR intersection at Ang Thong) and turn right. Go 1.6kms, going straight ahead at the ‘T’ junction, to the runsite. Runsite co-ordinates are N7.003° E100.658°. Click here for link to Google Maps.
If coming from Hatyai, take the New Chana Road for 24.0kms from the overpass on the Kanchanwanit Road at Khlong Wa intersection, or 11.2kms from the Phichit Road junction. Turn left at the traffic lights, then left again after 700m onto the Old Yala Road. From the junction with the OYR go 2.2kms north before turning left, then go 1.6kms straight on to the runsite.

HH3's details for Sunday are still awaited and will be posted later. Meanwhile don't forget the Oscar Bar 5th anniversary party on Friday (July 19th) 19:00 - 02:00 Details below.
Join the celebrations on Friday night as Oscars turns 5 years old. Live music will feature the acoustic guitar and vocals of George Edward from London. There will be complementary food including Thai food by Pui and Mark's famous Gumbo. We look forward to seeing you all here

Up memory Lane

Here is what yesterday's SH3 runs (short in green, long in red + green) look like on Google Earth - sadly no action-packed Relive version is available as Little Tool, who provides these things was the sole occupant of the run site during the run, opting to nurse some injuries as he finalized the preparation of the wonderful food that followed the pack's returns.

But otherwise, everybody did some sort of run with all but All Black and Peppered Pussy attempting the second hill crossing, or in the case of the short run the only hill crossing, at the top of which the errant Gan Yao was discovered having taken another route up the hill from the wrong side. The long run weighed in at 8.4k all up reducing to 7.3k without the F's and X's while the 'short' run topped 6k, or about 5.1k for those who avoided them. The total ascent for the long run was about 280m, while that for the short run was about 160m. Full marks to Nok Air, Lowbat and Tee for persevering with the second hill on the long run despite getting delayed before the beer stop, but still managing to get back to the run site before dark, and to everybody for getting down the jungle section of the descent without injury, the only casualty being a lost handphone, retrieved and returned to its owner by Chao Ngor.
