Who wants to be erected?

If only it were that simple!

Saturday is erection day at SH3 when you get the chance to vote for who you think should be allowed to pretend they are in control for the next year.  Also up for grabs will be various committee positions, including, unless Sticky has had a change of heart, Hash Cash, and with Beavershot fleeing the country for the occasion, the post of On Sex which he has so ably avoided exercising for the last year could also be available (for a small consideration in used bills).

Traditionally, of course, by now the cronies have retired into a smoke-filled room and reached a consensus about whose turn it is to do what - maybe they already have and aren't telling me! But other than some mumblings about the return of the cube, this is probably the most open competition for years; open as in absolutely no one has shown any interest in doing anything! The fun starts at 4:00 p.m. and unless a recount is needed should all be over by about 5 past (anyone wanting to avoid their democratic duty but still wanting to run, please take note!)

Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1758, Saturday 28th February 2015: 4 p.m.'ish
Hares: Egghead and Buck
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng intersection take the old Yala road for 8.1k and do a U turn. Then come back 100 meters and turn left by Ban Dan School for 1.9k. Look for a sign (- it's not the usual runsite we use!)

Before that on Friday evening there will be a quiz night at the Office Bar, when the shadowy figure of Teacher Mick will be quiz master. Rumor has it that Eightball will be out of the country and with Beaver also unavailable this could be another one of those open competitions!

Finally, there will be an HH3 run on Sunday, more than that we cannot say! No doubt details will be made available on Saturday.

Courtesy of Stick Insect, here is last Sunday's HH3 run. Like most people he was utterly confused by the final check, so the in trail is approximate; but it's where the hares should have gone! Total distance was under 5k with the maximum height about 160m

The Almost Circular Run 1757

Aaah, ...so that's where we went.
The long run had an overall length of 8.1kms, including the 7 checks, 1 check-back & 9 false trails, with a total ascent of 353metres (was it that much?, no wonder there were murmurings from the pack). The short run (in blue) was 3.1kms, with a total ascent of 129metres, which was run in reverse to the long run, to help confuse any stragglers. As it was the long run pack stayed pretty well together, at least till after the beer stop, when it seems the alcohol intake befuddled the brains of several of the FRBs who managed to come back to the runsite on completely new and different trails, never ventured by the hares before.

Buckyardo - the word that defeated Google

It's not often these days that you search for something obscure on Google images and it comes back and tells you that it hasn't found anything. Normally you can enter some random string of letters and guarantee that there'll be a million pictures, most of which aren't fit to display on a family hash blog, but usually there'll be something not entirely inappropriate with which to head the run directions each week.

But Buckyardo? Not a thing! You'd think there'd be something, but apparently that's the one word in the whole of the universe that nobody has thought to associate as a keyword for their favorite picture.

So this week we are imageless as we bring you...
Songkhla Hash House Harriers' run #1757, Saturday 21st February 2015, 4:00 p.m.
Hares: Yardstick and Buck
Misdirections: From the Kao Seng Intersection take the old Yala road for 16k (5.3k South of the NYR / OYR intersection at Ang Thong)  and turn right just before Wat Kuhn Thong. After 1.0k turn left and proceed approximately 600m to the runsite amongst the rubber trees. For Hatyai visitors take the Nam Noi -Thung Wang road through Ban Tha Kam to Ban Sai Khao then go straight ahead past the big tree for 2.5k and turn right.

Hatyai H3's run on Sunday will be from the original football field in Poonakan (4.5k from Wat Keow Kloy on the left). It's probably best not to ask who the hares are in case you're asked to set it!

Geezers on the run

It looks simple but this race predictor incorporates some serious research. Just give it a time and distance you've recently run plus your age and gender (if you're in doubt the staff at Coffee in Love can confirm this for you). It'll then tell you how you can expect to do at any other distance at your current level of fitness. You know, just in case you are one of the hash fanatics now officially in training for the Angkor Empire Half Marathon.

The love run

An approximate track (my GPS is flaky). Green is the short run in-trail. The red X's mark the section we ran on Hatyai Hash two weeks ago. Not exactly the "same run", OK? It was about 7.5km long including the five false trails, with 280m of ascent. First runner back in 1:02 and the last around 1:12.

Like a migrating bird from the frozen north, it's always good to see Buck back in Sonkghla.

Love is in the air (or it is just the smell of that chicken farm?)‏

As the latest Hash newly-wed, Beavershot feels it's his duty to set a Valentine's Day run. Wine and roses for the ladies. The men can swill beer and scratch their balls.

Misdirections: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 10k and turn left at the Nam Noi traffic lights for 3.1k, then turn right and follow signs etc. for 1k to the run site beyond the smelly chickens.

HH3 on Sunday will be set by Robocop and Sex Racing. Details are: From the Ko Yo intersection take the old Hatyai road for 4.7k and turn left for 11k then follow the road round to the right (at Wat Nern Pijit) and go a further 1k . Turn right at the hash sign and follow the road to the run site on the right. There's a map posted below on September 28 from the last time we used the same site if you need some visual stimulation to help you get there.

Disinterring Saturday's run from the complex confusion of data provide by Kii Leum was much like making sense of Kii Leum's mental processes - best left to experts. Here is the track from his GPS:

From which, with the aid of a little local knowledge, a few inspired guesses and a partial recollection of where we went, my best guess of what the run actually looked like is this:

which was 8.2k with all the F's and was completed in a sprightly 1 hour 10 minutes including the beer stop. The first half did not exceed 40 meters at any point but once we crossed the road into more familiar territory the run hit a maximum of 84 meters at the F on the extreme right of the run. The short run was a challenging 5.5k which probably accounted for the fact that almost all the short runners got home after the long runners.

Kii Leum did also helpfully provide a track for Sunday's HH3 run which happily is in almost complete accord with the hare's own track.

6.4k without the F's and X's, 7.9k with them, the run hit 280 meters at the top of the upper X at the 3rd check but from there the trail was  a fairly gently downhill trot, allowing the first runner home (ok, Beavershot) to get home in 1 hour 7 minutes with pretty much everybody home in 1 hr 15. The short run was a modest(!!) 4.8k .

A (short?) farewell to Khii Leum

A few more shots from yesterday's KL farewell run, though he's already threatening to come back before we even have time to miss him. But then going back to Holland in February, who can blame him?
